Sewalongs and Competitions / Re: 2024 Jeans Sew Along
« on: January 06, 2024, 14:45:03 PM »
@Ouryve Yes, I'd struggle with a timescale. I want to understand what I'm doing and I think the older I get the slower on the uptake I become :o

Having said that I'm looking forward to a sewalong so all those brilliant, talented sewing peeps can show us how it's done.

@realale Wow! Thanks for that article and the diagram. I know which Silhouette I'd prefer to be!  Unfortunately I can see which one I am! Only perhaps with a bigger tummy.  :boohoo:

@SewRuthieSews you are good! I was hoping you'd suggest a sewalong.

I'd like to learn how to fit jeans. Fitting tops makes perfect sense to me but I can't get my head around how to fit a crotch.  :faints:

Also as you and @Flobear have mentioned different weight/amount of stretch denims affect the fit!  :faints: :faints: :faints:

I'm definitely in. Providing we can go VERRRRRY slowly!

Ok It get it! Some of you lovely lot don't appreciate the finer points of a hot water bottle.

I'm in the process of making a quilted jacket and thought I could make something with the offcuts!

@Lowena You've never owned a pair of wellies???

@Ploshkin the frida blouse looks really nice. That's going on the list.  :thumb:

@Ouryve I see what you mean. Perhaps gathers may be too much.

@So Chic Perhaps pleats would be the way to go.

All very helpful. Thank you.  :)

Patterns Discussion / Looking for a new blouse pattern.
« on: December 15, 2023, 16:50:41 PM »
In the past I’ve only made shirts so I thought it would be nice to have a go at sewing a different style of top.  :)

I’ve found this pattern that I thought looks interesting. The gathers on the back and sides go into the collar band which is something I’ve never sewn before.

And in her diary @Diane is making one I really like the look of so I'll be reading with interest to see her views on that pattern.

I was wondering if you lovely lot have any other suggestions for blouses I could try.

The only criteria I have is that it must be a relaxed fit!  Not that I have any wobbly bits I'd like to conceal or anything ......

Thanks for your help.

@SewRuthieSews  I've just popped over to pattern review and seen the great review you've posted there. The shirt looks so modern and the fabric is really cute. And it still fits your friend!

40 years ago I was a Top Shop size 10. Now, even with modern day 'sizeflation',  I couldn't squeeze into a size 10!

It's a really great story. Your friend most be chuffed with her 'new' shirt.  :thumb:

Embroidery and Embellishment / Fabric Flower Embellishment
« on: January 04, 2022, 14:52:54 PM »
I got some Sanctuary goodies for Christmas and they came in a really nice heart shaped box. Unfortunately a very large contents label had been glued on the lid. Why???  :boohoo: I peeled it off carefully but it left a sticky residue so I made a fabric flower and stuck it over where the label had been.
It was really simple to make, just lots of circles cut out of lining fabric, the edges singed with a candle and then sewn together with few beads for the centre.

Now I just need something to put in the box.

I love the idea of the 100 day project, earlier this year I sketched for 100 days and I'll definitely do something next year.

There was an article by Kim Smith Soper in this month's Love Quilting magazine where she talked about her 100 blocks. Here's a photo of her finished quilt .

Looking forward to seeing the amazing quilts TSPers create.  :)
