For Sale, Wanted & Free to a good home / For sale, fleece jackets
« on: January 09, 2022, 13:53:57 PM »
Hope it's ok to advertise these, @Iminei

ONLY CREAM SMALL LEFT

I made these a couple of years ago, with a view to selling them, but that's as far as it got!

I have one cream/white in a medium and one in a small, and the red one is a medium. They are loose fitting, so sizing isn't too critical.

I'd love to try to recoup costs, so probably £10 each plus postage, or make me an offer!

Access All Accessories / The very last scrap of blue leather
« on: December 14, 2021, 17:20:06 PM »
I wasn't going to waste it, I love this pale blue!

This is a mirror cover/case/wotsit thingy, made up as I went along, the embroidery machine circles were great, then I thought I could sew the top and bottom bits together on the embroidery machine using yet another slightly bigger circle.  It might have worked if the presser foot hadn't caught on the inside edge of the opening and then broke it's needle - twice!!.
So the top and bottom were sewn together on the sewing machine, but although I had lined the m up and followed one of the stitched circles, the bottom piece stretched and the stitching doesn't look so good that side.  But never mind, there's only me will see it
I had thought I'd make a little slip-in case for it too, but then realised that the cut out circle fitted very nicely back in the hole, so I attached it with a little strip leather.  Dunno how long it will fit nicely, but it'll do for now.

Access All Accessories / Shiny leathery lovely.
« on: December 12, 2021, 09:15:50 AM »
Today's make is a glasses case.  It's a bit small, fits my cheap-off-internet emergency specs in, but will need to try to enlarge it for my sunglasses.

I lined the flap with a bit of slubby silk, and used some self adhesive velvety stuff for the inside.  And I used a magnetic catch for the first time.

As I suspected, the silk is a bit too loose a weave  as it's already pulled away from the edge stitching near the catch, but hopefully the bit of fray stop will help.

Access All Accessories / Lining for glasses case
« on: December 09, 2021, 11:42:59 AM »
I have thought of one use for my bits of shiny leather - a case for my sunglasses.  But what fabric would you line it with?  I want something that won't scratch them obviously, but it needs to be very thin and preferably non-fraying.

Any ideas please?

Access All Accessories / More leather, but no ideas - yet
« on: December 07, 2021, 14:03:28 PM »
The bigger pieces aren't as pink as I'd hoped, but lovely, soft and thin.  The sparkly bits are also leather, I bought a pack of five  but they gave me extra as they'd forgotten to send my order.

I just need some ideas now, preferably for useful things I'll actually use...

What did I buy them for, I hear you ask.  Cos they is pretty and shiney

Access All Accessories / Pale blue leather bags
« on: November 29, 2021, 09:41:05 AM »
I've been saving this beautiful pale blue leather until I knew what I really wanted to make with it.  Here is the first item, a small make-up bag, copied from a larger one I have.
I haven't lined it as I actually love the back of the leather, but that does of course mean that you can see the stabiliser in the embroidery, but it's only that will see it!
The embroidery is actually white and two shades of very light blue, I absolutely love how it's turned out.

There will be two more bags (for different uses) in the next few days - hopefully.

Access All Accessories / Help! Bag stiffener stuff...
« on: November 28, 2021, 17:16:11 PM »
I am about to make a little travel case to store charger plugs, leads, garmin, etc.  It's going to be sort of like this shape

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

and I want something to stiffen the sides and probably the top and bottom so it doesn't collapse in a heap on itself and protects things inside.

The problem is, I have no idea what to search for - help!!

Embroidery and Embellishment / Embroidered cards
« on: November 03, 2021, 18:38:44 PM »
Another first for me - embroidering on card.

I just need a better glue to stick down the paper that's covering the back.

The Show Must Go On / Meg and Mog - Mog costume
« on: October 25, 2021, 13:09:26 PM »
This is proving to be more problematic than I thought it would be.
The trousers are just plain black so they're done.

The top isn't so straight forward, or at least the stripes aren't.  They need a jagged top edge, so I've cut into them, then sewn them on, but when I hold the fabric upright the jaggeddy bits sag.  Trying a bit of glue along the edges now...

Pics in a bit, just having lunch.

Today's productions.
The blue one is leather, the purple-ish one is vinyl, and I've done the key fob again in leather.

Am I boring you now?

Current Projects / An embroidered key fob
« on: October 01, 2021, 09:29:13 AM »
Yesterday's experiment was an embroidered key fob on vinyl.

It seems the vinyl stretched a bit as the gold coloured stitching was very dense, hence some of the black outline stitching ended up off the first line of stitching.  But it's ok I reckon.  I will try it on leather to see how that goes.

Access All Accessories / Today's leather purse and some vinyl cable tidies
« on: September 14, 2021, 21:20:41 PM »
The purse was an experiment, I didn't want to do a seam around and then turn it inside as I thought it would be too bulky, so with a bit of different placement of pieces in the hoop, I got the seam flat on the edge.  The only slight issue is the ends of the zip where it's cut off right at the edges are a bit "catchy", so a slightly different approach needed next time with the zip.  I got two lines of stitching round the outside by enlarge the design by 2mm and re-stitching the circle.  And I forgot the last two circles really needed matching bobbin thread.  Still got some teeny bits of stabiliser to pick out too.

The cable tidies were a freebie, but altered in size, the original centre pattern removed and my wording added.

Access All Accessories / Leather key holder
« on: September 14, 2021, 11:20:51 AM »
T'Other Half wanted something to stop his keys making holes in his pockets, so after a bit of research, I came up with this.

It is actually a sludgy green in real life.
