@Pearl I have had some avatars showing as black squares over the last few days, but it seems okay at the moment. I assumed it was my computer.

That's lovely and so creative. Well done for using up your left over shirt pieces so beautifully.

I actually liked Melania's kaftan, she looked like she was off to enjoy a holiday in the sun. I prefer the sleeves on her dress to the cuffs on Anna Wintour's.

A Good Yarn / Re: More help required - casting on!
« on: December 28, 2020, 01:30:16 AM »
@Kenora Your post sent me googling German Twisted Cast On which led me to Chinese Waitress Cast On. I didn't realise there were so many complicated ways to cast on ! I might try one of these methods if I am ever inspired to knit again.

Better not mention the Aussie rubber thong then, very popular here in summer.

@Manuela  Congrats on your win and I am very sorry to hear that you are no longer moderating.

Perhaps you could tell her how much the materials cost and how long it would take to make. Then ask her how much she thinks is reasonable to pay . It would give her an appreciation of what is involved and be less awkward than suggesting an amount.

Current Projects / Re: Baby Play Mat
« on: January 13, 2020, 07:02:14 AM »
@rubywishes My confusing look in Spotlight was one of the reasons I thought I would consult the forum for some advice ! I couldn't seem to find any care instructions on the Spotlight stuff so thank you for the alternative suggestions.

@Kenora Cotton wadding was what I had in mind at first but I will look at the mattress protector idea as well. Better get on with it instead of my usual procrastination !

Thank you for the advice everyone, lots of food for thought. Your play mat is absolutely beautiful @Sheilago, anything I make will be a lot simpler I'm afraid.

Thank you @Iminei and @Lisalou1965 . I was thinking of something like this Round Quilted Play Mat but I wasn't sure whether cotton batting would cope with frequent washing. Unlike a quilt which may be washed less often.

I am planning to make a simple baby play mat for a new baby in the family but I need some advice about what sort of wadding to use. I am not very familiar with the different types of wadding available but it would probably need to be something that stands up to frequent washing. For anyone in Australia I will most likely be shopping at Spotlight but can go to a specialty quilting shop if Spotlight has nothing suitable. All suggestions appreciated as it is the first time I have attempted to make something like this !
