This is what Elvistoo has been up to .... [ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

He is very clever, and so is his driver! They are beautiful.
-
Exquisite, well done both of you
-
They are beautiful.
Clever Elvistoo.
-
Gorgeous - and they're proper recognisable butterflies :)
-
I had no idea these things were possible. I love the fact that they look real, the colours are perfect.
-
they are gorgeous
-
Very pretty.
Now, can we have chapter and verse on how you made them? :toast:
-
Oh they’re great. Well done @Iminei.
I always think those that can digitise things like this are very clever. Much more artistic than me.
-
They are beautiful, well done @Iminei, I see great things in Elvistoo’s future.
-
Gorgeous butterflies Imi, good to see that you are enjoying your new machine.
-
I want one!
My own Elvis, not a butterfly, though they are stunning.
-
Well done Imi, I'm sure they are great, but I had to scroll very quickly past them as I have a bit of a phobia of butterflies and fluttery things!
-
Oh Wow, they are just beautiful :loveit:
-
They're gorgeous and so accurate in the colours.
-
Wow and wow, they look real. You're certainly not a novice, Elvistoo still needs a mistress to create like that. Beautifully done.
-
Beautiful @Iminei !
-
Wow they look soo real amazing.

They are really beautiful :)

Wow and WOW, @Iminei ! They are just stunning. Lucky recipients! xx

My ideas for the flutterbys are developing ...

Looks great really professional, where next?
-
Well its not too professional but I mean to remedy that. At the moment there is a small cut piece of magnetic sticky tape stuff on his underside ... its not very strong and clunky!
I hope to attach a couple of teeny tiny but strong magnets with hot glue for a better finish.
Then I hope to wind a lil band of whatever metal that magnets stick to (????? No idea what that will be) around the stems of a plant and display them for sale like that .... as well as in cases.
-
@Iminei steel or iron wire. Here I would go to the hardware store and buy binding wire.
You and Elvistoo are so clever. Where did you find the butterflies?
-
Two teeny tiny magnets and they would attach to curtains... 8)
They're great! :loveit:
-
Where did you find the butterflies?
I caught them .... :P
If you look further down this thread you'll find the method I used.
-
SOS SOS SOS
Im trying to buy some teeny tiny superstrong magnets ...
I was really hoping that one of our lovely techy/engineering/physicy TSP peeps could steer me to the right place
This is what I need .....
Neodynium rare earth magnets
6mm x 2mm and 10mm x 4mm
Why cant I just google them I hear you ask ???
There are so many suppliers with so many different prices for differing quantities and I hate to think Im being stiffed ..
Metaphorically speaking ... if you know what I mean
Can anyone help me???
-

sigh. OK, @Iminei , AKA Miss Smarty Pants. I had re-read the entire thread before I asked. >< I know that you used Elvistoo to machine embroider them in all their glory. But no where do you divulge the source of the digitized design. Are they built in on E2? Did you draw them yourself and digitize them? Or did you do my thing and buy those designs from somewhere? Hum? Hum? and Hum??? And if bought, from whom?
I have a fondness for various bugs, including the flutterbys. I have a few PES designs but am always on the lookout for more.
-
There are some freestanding butterflies on Embroidery Library (https://www.emblibrary.com/EL/search.aspx?search=freestanding%20butterfly) although I don't know whether they include the ones Iminei has so beautifully made.
-
OK, 1/4" and 3/8" rare earth magnets. My sources are of course US. The one I would have recommended, Lee Valley Tools, was I thought too pricey. The other, Harbor Freight Tools, doesn't ship International as far as I can see. I shop them in person, as they're next door to my Doctor's office.
-
My source unveiled ... yes embilibrary!
Imi
AKA Miss Smartypants!

:toast: Thank you!

Finally .... after hours and hours and hours (and hours and hours) of stitching
Four butterflies

God they take an age to stitch and the amount of thread!!!

Those are stunning @Iminei. I look forward to seeing them on magnets.

Cor, Elvistoo has been busy!
-
Flipping fabulous.
I bet you daren't leave them too close to The Moo. I can just see them being tossed into the air to see how high they fly.
-
They are beautiful, very clever girl.
-
@Gernella I'm afraid the Moo is far too much of an old lady to be fussing around with anything like that these days ....
but she was a one in her youth!
-
They are beautiful, and that lovely fireplace is the ideal place to showcase them. 0_0
-
Oh dear!! How wonderful these flutterbys are 0_0 :loveit: Very well done Elvistoo !!! They are stunning on your fireplace!! :flower:
btw: how much thread and time does Elvis need for such a little wonder?
-

They surprise you sometimes @Iminei , our old lady 17 this year certainly knows how to put the young un in his place, he daren't go near her when she's curled up somewhere, sleeping or not.
-
@Sakar and anyone else who might like to know ....
how much thread and time does Elvis need for such a little wonder?
A SHOCKING amount!!!!!!
Each butterfly takes an hour and a quarter upwards with the most stitches so far being 46,963 stitches for this lil beauty....
[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]
which has 8 separate colours and 11 colour changes!!!
I stitch them in 3's or 4's depending on which I choose and use my 12" x 7" hoop.
I did (start) to video the process but it takes so long!
The main body of the wings take the most thread and I have lots of 1000m cones of Madeira in various browns, blues etc just for that part... as I want to preserve the beauty and integrity of my Treasure Chest!! Tho' I do use those reels for details on the butterflies that take between 1 and 5 minutes to stitch.
[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]
They take longer than the advertised time (on the machine) as I have to unhoop and change the bobbin thread between each different colour

That is the reverse of the butterfly!
I do love them and have some vague idea of selling them but ££££ !!!!
I've seen smaller versions with bobbin thread showing on the reverse and a brooch barthing hotglued to the reverse in an arty crafty place in Salisbury which were being sold at around £26 !
-
Wow! Even real butterflies aren't that beautiful on the underside!! :loveit:
-

I saw lots, about 10cm from wing-tip to wing-tip, with brooch pins on the reverse side at a local - ish p&q shop about 10 days ago for £4 each, but they all had a plain black reverse as they were not meant to be viewed from that side.
-
Similar butterfly brooches for £4.99 around here. Didn't examine the backs but the fronts made me think of yours @Iminei I
They're very nice but I find flying / fluttery things a bit disconcerting.
-
That’s the problem we cannot compete with mass produced often Chinese made products BUT if you market them as individually hand made in the UK and sell in the right place some people are still willing to pay a better price for things.
Yours are beautiful
-
Really ??????? :(
I would appreciate if you bought one/took photos of one for me @Lowena
Are they stitched or plastic or painted or ????
-
Didn't look closely so I have no idea except they looked stitched. If I go that way again I'll get a sneaky photo and send it to you.
-
The ones I saw were machine embroidered by one of the ladies who works in the shop. The brooch pin was sewn on rather than being stuck on.
