Son and his wife expecting first baby so I thought I’d make DIL a bag from a pattern by MrsH.
She loves owls so I made this from some fabric I had in my stash. Pleased with the result although I haven’t matched the pattern. Thanks to all of you who have given advice about materials, I used car interlining on this.
I must admit I did think I was never going to finish, with 94 steps in the instructions and I didn’t bank on the physical effort required to wrestle with the bag on the final steps, especially in this heat! Going back to dressmaking now. [ You are not allowed to view attachments ] [ You are not allowed to view attachments ] [ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Lovely bag- it does look complicated. Isn’t it fun waiting for a grandchild. My daughter has 2 weeks to go. People keep telling me it could be any day now, but of course it could be 4 weeks! I made her a nappy caddy for the house and lots of other things ( play quilt, crib cover, pram cover, burp cloths, hooded towels) but have to admit to buying a changing bag. Yours looks great!

what a great looking bag. By the way what is car interlining and how did you use it?

That's a fabulous bag, love the fabric! :vintage: :)

@jk1066 I’ve read about using car interlineing for bag support on a FB bagmakers group.
You can find it on eBay and if you are prepared to buy a large piece it works out much cheaper than the various things usually sold for bag stiffening.
I suppose it’s not worth it if you only plan to make one bag but is soon cost effective if you are going to make several.

This is the stuff I bought from eBayCar headliner (http://https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Car-Headlining-or-Headliner-Fabric-2mm-Foam-Backed-By-the-metre-140cm-wide/302234082544?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649) about £9 a metre. I’ve used it for lots of little bags and still got some left.
With the scraps left over I made this for other DIL who’s off travelling- hence travel wallet.
