Patterns Discussion / Re: Sewing for children/babies

I started sewing when my first was little. The things I used the most were bibs and reversible trousers (straight wideish legs so rolled up to fit and adjustable waist).

Have they just used a different photo from the first session? Looks like same model, wearing the one the bloke has on the old one.

Edited to add:
Looked at the pattern review article - looks like a whole lot of Photoshop going on!

A Good Yarn / Re: Toe up sock pattern - recommendation please
« on: November 08, 2019, 15:40:59 PM »
I've just started wearing my hand knitted socks again. I can honestly say I've forgotten which ones are toe up and which are top down.  They have the same heel and gusset and my grafting is invisible after plenty of wear and washing.  One thing I do know is that quality yarn makes a difference over time.

Best tihng with toe up is trying it on as you go, much easier if you use magic loop rather than dpns!

I've made lots from Socks From the Toe Up by Wendy D Johnson.  There's a few different heel methods described and done as plain socks and them on to patterns.

she's also got some on her blog

This might be just what you need fingering weight toe up

As I was already planning to use up some stash to make a bag or tow I should be able to join in.

Here's another look at the loveliness I received from Hernibs, without the staging.  About to be used for my bowl of soup and glass of water. In a house full of men and boys it's great to have something to make me feel special. Xx

Here goes.

Sorry for the delay.  When I came to upload the picture I found my subscription had lapsed so hit a brick wall.  I don't do money things on the phone so this afternoon I set up the computer.

Image doesn't do justice to the sparkles on the fabric and gold highlights on the embelishments.  I think that I've used the little mat correctly.....

I received the most beautiful autumnal decorated envelope yesterday.  Thank you Hernibs, that alone must have taken you ages!

Contents are amazing too - so different from what I did myself.  I'll wait to post pics, especially as we've had a few more days of summer weather so the change of season can wait.

Posted mine today as next week is a bit mad and it might have got buried. Not telling who to though to keep the suspense.

I've finished but won't post just yet as I keep looking at it and thinking its missing something.

Current Projects / Re: Christmas Craft 2019
« on: September 07, 2019, 19:16:55 PM »
My Christmas plannig is not quite sewing but does involve thread.  I'm learning tatting in order to make little motifs to go on cards. I started by using a shuttle as I've been shown quite a few years ago.  Found it difficult but persevered.

Then I found a left handed you-tube video and trid that to see if it was easier.  Not really.

I accidentally started a needle tatting video.  That appealed to me - seemed to make more sense so I ordered tatting needles.  They came quickly and it was a revelation!

I've done a few little pretty flowers.  Next to try snowflakes, trees and angels.

I've nearly finished one but a couple of areas are a bit iffy.  It will do as a prototype.  Second one is half way and I stopped where I messed up last time so going to start again with a clear head. Learning new stuff.

On the other note eldest survived his first day of high school, even sent me a text to let me know he got on the bus home ok.  He also told me he was desperate for the loo so I made sure the route was clear and seat up ;-)  He's learning new stuff too - if your bus is one of the first ones, make sure to go before last lesson!

I'm planning on playing tomorrow. Boys first day at school and I recon I've earned a day off. All ready for the morning, eldest first day at high school and he's got to leave the house a whole hour earlier than he's used to for the bus.

Going to look through the fabric and for inspiration now they are in bed.
