I had one of these years ago, I remember it being a bit temperamental. I think I got it working well when I realised the fabric needed stabiliser. I used machine embroidery thread which is finer & more slippery than sewing thread, used the same in the bobbin (this was before I had an embroidery machine so I'd not heard of bobbinfil). Reduce the top tension & try with a #70 needle. I remember using an embroidery hoop to keep the fabric from bunching up.
I’m using stabiliser but will try the embroidery thread, thanks for the suggestion

Is it a flower foot deigned specifically for your machine or some generic make?
It’s just a generic one, my machine is a Pfaff 1475, bit of a golden oldie but I love it

I had to look up what the Flower Presser Foot was. It looks cool. Given it is turning the fabric, have you got the feed dogs down, also it might work better if you use smallish pieces of fabric, use a sturdy needle and not go too fast.
Yes I have the feed dogs down. It’s so frustrating as from videos I’ve seen it looks like a really cool foot! I just can’t understand why it doesn’t work. The top thread just isn’t catching the bobbin thread consistently, but when I put regular foot back on everything works fine

@Abi Have you tried changing the needle?
Yes I have Diane, I had to as have a had 3 break

I bought a flower foot but my machine skips stitches really badly when using it. If I take it off and sew the same stitch using regular foot it sews fine so it must be an issue with the flower foot, has anyone else experienced this or know how to fix it??

Overlockers & Coverstitchers / Re: Right needle thread keep breaking!

Well it has had a miraculous recovery and is playing nice again, fingers crossed it stays that way! I’ve recently had to change the upper knife after the end of it flew off and narrowly missed my face, and the needle plate after one of the little pins broke off so maybe was something to do with that.
I’m considering buying a used Bernina 800DL, does anyone here have any experience with that machine?

I find this machine to be so temperamental! I’ve had it for a while so threading isn’t the problem, it was working fine then suddenly this started happening, it’s so annoying!

Overlockers & Coverstitchers / Right needle thread keep breaking!

Hi all, I’m having a nightmare with my overlocker and I’m hoping someone can advise, it’s a Brother 1034D. The right needle keeps breaking when sewing, I’ve changed the needle, re threaded, tried different thread but it still does it every time, I don’t know what to do. I presume it must be something to do with the tension plates as it’s all running smoothly otherwise with no issues anywhere else, but I don’t know how to get at them and am worried about taking it apart. Does anyone have any ideas?

Hi @Abi what kind of dance costumes do you make? I have delved into the world of tutu's and other costumes but always steered clear of leotards

Hi BB! Up until now I’ve only made easy skirts but I’ve just made this Clara costime for my daughter’s production of The Nutcracker. It has an integral leotard and has given me no end of grief!

Hi, I’m new here and fairly new to sewing too. I’ve always had a sewing machine but have only recently got serious about it, so I’m hoping I can learn lots from everyone here. I’m currently struggling with a dance costume so will post for some help when I work out where best to post!
