@marylou welcome to TSP! Personally I love that dress. I love that whole "Lagenlook" layered vibe. I'd wear it and I'm a couple of years older than you.   ;)

I say go for it. A lot of people are disparaging over this sort of relaxed look. That's OK. You're dressing to please yourself.

@datcat23 I've been wondering when you were going to post this. Pity we have so many "Debbie Downers" about planning ahead and being organized for Christmas so that it goes smoothly and you can enjoy the process. I normally make my plans the first week of August.  :thumb:

I'm hoping to make OH one or two pair of flannel sleep pajama pants. Fabric was bought several years ago and has been washed and dried twice so the shrink is out. It's the nicest flannel I've ever seen.  :loveit:

Then maybe a little baking, gluten free this time and some candy, small batches, of fudge, English toffee and maybe divinity.

Not really anyone else to make anything for. By brother's family is wasting my time with hand made. Besides you never get any acknowledgement of the items let alone a thank you.

Most of my friends that would have enjoyed me made items have died off or lost touch years ago. Being retired eliminates coworker gifts.

That's what Pinterest is for. I can enjoy what the energetic people of the world are doing

Is it the one with a big circular medallion? I went trolling through the 5000+ photos online.

And @Bill ,be glad you don't live in California for this. In Cali the law states that all sales are final unless the merchant chooses to have a more lenient policy. Big box stores, good, mom & pop shops, which is all the machine dealers here, you buy it, you own it. UNLESS it's defective. Then they need to make you "whole" again. That usually means repair or replace. But if the machine shows signs of being misused they can fight with you over it.
That's why I said not to mention the 15 million layers of heavy fabric you put through it. You know, to see what it's limits were.  Distance sales with a signed contract you have 3 or 4 days to cancel.

Anyway I hope this gets resolved quickly and to your satisfaction.

They have to look at it first to see if there really is a fault and then go from there. I would think it easier for them just to send a replacement machine than opening it up and taking apart all the bits just to get to the bolt that secures the foot shaft. That's buried way at the back if it's anything like the atelier.
I did look at other machines but there wasn't really anything I liked. Didn't want another brother or janome either.
Other than a lack of muscle which isn't proving to be a huge problem, I really do like the B77. We'll see what happens.

This @Bill .When I read it before I thought you were saying that some bolt that holds the foot shaft had dropped in and was way in  the back now. Silly me.  ;)

Stop using Burt  @Bill .  You've told them the machine is defective, they want to look at it. You've told us the screw fell inside somewhere. Now you're telling us it's developed additional problems. If you tell them about these new issues that have now developed they could easily blame the problems on abuse, misuse of the equipment. That might well  nullify any warranty. Then you're stuck.

I'd want my money back, but not a replacement!  I'd personally spend the money on a Bernina Mechanical - but then, that's just me! (at least you'd be able to tinker with it!)

For Bill, an industrial machine. He likes to sew a lot of thick layers. Although some domestic machines will do it there are very few that enjoy it and come out unscathed. Our man Bill is the perfect candidate for an industrial machine.

Fun with Fabric / Re: 10 Good Reasons to Buy Fabric

They left out Zombie Apocalypse. It's coming Peeps. OH says we can hide in a big pile of my fabric and they'll never find us thanks to all the off gassing from formaldehyde and other chemicals used in manufacturing.

So on the rare occasion these days when fabric follows me home he just smiles and says "oh good, more camouflage."

Another reason not on the list, because I can.  ;)

Nope. It's brand spanking new. I'm touching bugger all.

Thank heaven. Resist the urge @Bill . We know it's your nature, a natural born Tinkerer, but resist until this issue is addressed. My personal rule is no tinkering until the warranty is up unless it's cheap enough that I can readily replace it.

BTW you shouldn't pay to ship this back if it's defective, which it appears to be, possibly, both the machine and the part, the manufacturer or merchant should be liable for it.

Sometimes things slip past quality control, especially these days. So long as the problem is handled well everything is fine.

I forget, do you still have a backup machine?  :vintage:

It's not sitting straight. I think that's what's broke the foot holder.
It doesn't look as clear as I thought but the left hand prong that hold the foot on snapped off.
£30 Inc delivery for a new foot holder but the thing will still be twisted to one side and so the same thing might happen again.

You just bought it. Isn't it under some warranty? You shouldn't be spending to replace defective parts.  I know metals. That looks like a bad casting and that's why it broke.

As for being slightly askew in relationship to the lines on the plate, that doesn't bother me. Lots of machines appear that way. My Brother does but it tracks perfectly, I can walk away from it when it's on the slowest speed and let it continue sewing, accurately.

If it is out of alignment it's either a factory defect or it was tweaked by the 9-10 layers of heavy fabric you tried to put through that made it judder. Don't mention that when you contact them.

You shouldn't be out of pocket for any of this with it being a week old. Good luck on this.

@Bill  umm? The second photo, I get that it appears to be a defective casting on the shank. But what's the issue with the first photo? Same shank, same problem. Slightly askew?

Fun with Fabric / Re: How does broderie anglaise come on a roll?
« on: July 04, 2023, 13:59:10 PM »
@Tall_andy you definitely want to see a photo of the full width of the bolt. Broderie Anglaise often doesn't go to the edge and not always the same distance from the edge on both sides. Sometimes you need more yardage than a pattern calls for because of that.

Welcome from me too!

Me again.  :)

I looked some more at the pics. Is this going to be lined? You can't really make proper adjustments unless you have layers similar to the finished garment. Linings and their seams take up space. Also it's best if she is wearing whatever lingerie will be worn that day for fitting.

It's a great deal of work but doable.

Photos from a little further back, showing her shoulders and full torso would be useful. Does it fit how you both want on the front? On her shoulders? And is that where and how you want the waist to sit? They, whoever "they" are, always say to adjust from the top down.

It looks like too much fabric and possibly too much length on the back. I don't sew fitted things, or wear them anymore, so I'm out of touch on how to fix this.

Also, it appears that the big safety pin is distorting how the fabric sits at the waist. Try pinning vertically or even basting her into the dress so it all lays exactly how it needs to be worn.

We have a few members who make custom wedding dresses. They may have suggestions but June is a very busy month in that industry.

What's a table topper?

@Lowena it's a usually square "quilt" used as a table decoration. Often thin, with a flannel filler, it can be decorative or with more filler used as a big hot pad.
