That is absolutely beautiful. I’ve never seen a treadle in a cabinet like that, so neat.

At least if it’s bit baggy you can take it in. If it’s too tight you’ll just have to get Theo into dance 0_0

Patchwork & Quilting ... Welcome to the Darkside / Westalee Rulers Course
« on: December 10, 2019, 14:00:16 PM »
I’ve just received the equipment list for my Westalee rulers course next March.

I’ve got most things already but have to prepare 12 quilt sandwiches with cotton wadding.  As my contribution to the Dark Side has been minimal recently I need some wadding and some plain cotton fabric. I’ll have a root through the stash but think I’ll need a small shop after Christmas.

They appear to want you to use Glide thread which I’m not familiar with but will buy some in appropriate colours once I’ve made my sandwiches.

I’m pleased I’ve been given plenty of notice of the requirements. It means I can wait until after Christmas to get things prepared.

I’m really looking forward to this course.

Fun with Fabric / Re: Pound Fabrics
« on: December 09, 2019, 19:37:54 PM »
I’ve just opened my parcel from Pound Fabrics and am really delighted.

Thanks Jessie for pointing this site out.

I bought some pointe and some fine jersey for toiles but am thinking that both will be fine for garments. There is some Star Wars jersey that will make matching PJs for the grandkids and some fleece backed jersey to make little jackets for my GD.

Lots to do now!

The Haberdashery / Re: Rotary cutters, no luck with using them

I find a rotary cutter much more accurate than scissors when cutting knits.

Never heard of Pound Fabrics before and I really shouldn’t browse fabric websites whilst unsupervised  :S

They have several fleece backed jerseys which should be lovely for my DGD and they could be bought in individual metres plus a couple of pieces for me 0_0

Certainly worth a punt but I now will have to be a lot more circumspect when I do the sewing class trip to Leeds next week :S

Hey Ho it’s nearly Christmas.

In the wardrobe / Re: Jersey Courtney

I’ve started using a glue stick, shock horror.

At the moment I use a Prym one that does not clog the needle. It’s especially good on knit necklines. Once it’s finished I’m going to try a standard glue stick. A friend uses one on her hems before she coverstitches and says she has had no problems.

I'm sure a couple of people on here got the Britannia one recently, try doing a search and see what comes up.

I bought an old Babylock combi and use it as a cover stitcher and its wonderful, but finding a babylock at a good price is like finding hens teeth :ninja:

The Haberdashery / Re: What to use to stabilise knit hems?
« on: November 25, 2019, 15:43:07 PM »
I’ve recently tried Lite Steam a Seam tape and found it very useful.

Sorry I can’t do links on my tablet but it’s on EBay.

It’s half an inch wide. I stick it on at the bottom of the fabric then press the hem up with the tape still attached, then remove the tape and press it gently to fix it. I’ve had no problem with cover stitching the hems. I get a nice crisp edge.

I do know I could buy my own fusible and cut strips but as I get older anything that makes the job quicker and easier gets my vote.

That is gorgeous, love your fabric choice.

Have you decided on a layout yet?  I bet you can do a variety of things with that block.

Oh I do like that fabric.

I would have thought if you take it steadily it should zig zag fine.
