Good afternoon, just a quick visit here today to finish the hems of the linen trousers then I am off for a natter with a neighbour. I have been busy this morning so I need a  change of scene and a walk round the block. Happy sewing everyone.

Good afternoon, I have made a start on the grey sweater knit dress after changing the needle and threading the machine up with grey thread.  I haven't finished the linen trousers hem yet and they need a press. Just got interrupted with a scam call from "BT Openreach Network Security Department " he hung up when I clearly wasn't taken in by his spiel.
Now going to tidy up and put the machine away.

I saw this & I thought you may be interested! / Re: Mantua maker
« on: March 01, 2024, 09:55:29 AM »
That is really interesting @Greybird, some mantuas were worn over those wide frames and ladies had to walk sideways through doors.  I found out that one of my victorian ancestors was a silk blouse maker using a sewing machine, other family members were silk weavers in London, Essex and Norfolk in the 18th century.

Good afternoon, anybody in?  A little progress this afternoon, I put the zip in the linen trousers and tacked the bias binding to the edge of the waist facing, pinned the leg seams before tacking them tomorrow and checking the fit.  My body shape has changed a little since the last time I sewed in August or September last year.

Hello and welcome @Clduk  this is a lovely place for advice and encouragement and of course chatting about and showing our makes. Here in Ipswich we have Franklins for fabrics and all things crafty but I buy online mostly from Croft Mill or Minerva. Look forward to seeing your sewing.

Knock knock, can I come in?  At last I have started, I am cutting out a pair of summer trousers from pale green linen, am waiting for suitable thread and zip before I can actually sew them.  This isn't taking too long so maybe I can cut out the dressing gown tomorrow because I thought I could use some of the cotton lawn for the waist facings and pocket bags of the trousers.
Enjoy your sewing this afternoon.

Thanks for the info @Morgan   I remember going to the V&A to a similar exhibition many years ago,  absolutely gorgeous.
