« on: April 23, 2022, 17:41:00 PM »
I cut out the skirt this afternoon, I used a cotton lawn that I bought ages ago and now don't really like  so this will be a wearable toile if it turns out OK.

In the wardrobe / Linen skirts
« on: April 04, 2022, 12:41:52 PM »
I have just finished the last of a trio of 8 panelled summer skirts, a sunshine yellow one in ramie. The other two were made earlier this  year, one in cream linen, the other in navy linen/cotton mix. They are alĺ plain colours and will go with the various tops I have made this spring so plenty of outfits for the warmer weather.
They are so easy to make and to wear.

This is what I'll make next. The fabric is a lovely soft jersey with not much stretch.

In the wardrobe / Shorts in the butterfly french terry
« on: January 25, 2022, 17:55:30 PM »
I had enough fabric left over from the top I made to cut out some shorts this morning.  So I have sewn rhe darts and the front and back seams, I found a white zip in my habby box  so pleased with the progress so far. My new scissors were lovely to use.

In the wardrobe / 3/4 length summer trousers
« on: January 12, 2022, 14:25:06 PM »
I am making these out of dark blue cotton lawn, should be cool to wear in  the hot summer days to come. The pattern is McCalls 6901 which I have used many times and now have a good redrafted pattern for my figure. I prefer a centre back zip and waist facing instead of a waistband so a smooth look. Next job is to sew in the zip, I did  the jeans style front pockets today and was pleased with the result, no wobbles on the top stitching .

I cut out the top this morning  from a rather bright butterfly print using french terry .

I seem to remember someone had this fabric  and thought the butterfly design  was a bit large.
I've got enough fabric for a pair of shorts.

In the wardrobe / Long cream linen skirt
« on: November 04, 2021, 07:28:27 AM »
Before I went into hospital for my hip op I cut out my favourite  8 panelled skirt in natural coloured linen  mix, the skirt is sewn but the lining is still pinned together, I'll see if I can sit long enough to sew the French seams on the lining, I am really missing my sewing  :(   a sign of recovery maybe.

Patchwork & Quilting ... Welcome to the Darkside / Wadding/batting
« on: August 29, 2021, 11:26:41 AM »
I need help with choice of batting for the sewing machine mat I am thinking of making. What sort should I use and how thick is it? I've had a look on Minerva but the majority seem to be sold in bed or cot sizes. Can I buy it by the metre? Or should I just cut up on old blanket?  :S

In the wardrobe / Grey wool skirt Simplicity K8128
« on: August 23, 2021, 17:39:02 PM »
I've cut out this circular skirt with a yoke and have a suitable zip, we got some light grey thread from Franklins on the way back from my blood test appointment today. It will need lining so I've ordered some from Minerva, cheaper and more choice than locally. So it is all ready for me to start sometime.

In the wardrobe / Skirt with unpressed pleats
« on: July 21, 2021, 07:12:55 AM »
I cut out this skirt from McCall's 7714 dress pattern    [ You are not allowed to view attachments ]  I am making it with this cotton lawn  [ You are not allowed to view attachments ]
It is a lovely light and soft silk-like cotton  just right for soft pleats. There are a lot of tailor tacks to mark all the pleats but this is the third time I have made the skirt so I'll sit quietly sometime and do them.
