Title: Feather weight 222 below going rate (eBay)
Post by: Roger on September 16, 2017, 07:42:45 AM
I can't say it's a bargain.... but it does seem cheaper than other auctions and buy it nows. And it's in good condition but so badly listed it's untrue!

But well out of my price range!

Maybe it costs that much because it's a sawing machine and not a sewing machine! :ninja:

I read somewhere that the reason why Featherweight prices have skyrocketed in recent years is because there is a US company which buys them from the UK in order to sell them on again in the US where they are extremely popular due to their portability and vintage quaintness etc.
I can't personally vouch for the veracity of that bit of gossip, but it does sound feasible to me.

Searching for 'sowing machine' can turn up some interesting goodies as well... eg a 221...:

Looking at the others on that link the price has gone up. Oh well, it was only ever a vague wish.

That's just what technichian Peter, of South Eastern Sewing Machines, told me a few weeks ago.

I have no way of knowing if it's true, but I have no reason to doubt him and as you say it's quite plausible that that is why prices for the Featherweights are so high.
