Could someone please explain how you replace the long http...... bit with just a word or phrase when inserting a link. I used to be able to do it on TSF but I've just attempted to do one, all full of confidence but it hasn't worked. The link is fine it just wasn't replaced with my chosen words
I hope I'm making sense, my brain doesn't have the IT bit.
-
Ploshkin, thanks for asking this, I can't find how to do it either :[

0_0 0_0 I've printed out the coding and it's just by my keyboard. I will never remember the string (did it wrong for the photos of small town America thread), but I like to make tidy posts.

It's easier than the PR way, which is a bit messy. (It's actually the correct way to write a link, as in, the above url thing we do here converts into the PR way as that is how links are properly written, but it seems too complicated for most so I have no idea why she did it that way).

I like to be able to do this.. but I'm a computer dunce

But I don't understand the reply
Where do I find a code button/ select button and then do I paste in the link and type the alternative wording after it

You don't need a button, you can just type the red text.
-
Please Miss what red text?
-
There is no red text, Vege. Just type the example that Fran has given you exactly as a demo to see how it should work. You can then substitute the weblink of your choice with the text you want it to represent.

In the little example I wrote the text was red.

Yah I did it... Just copied it symbol for symbol... ps there no red text anywhere on this thread for me.. I'm sure I'm not colour blind
-
@Francesca: it all becomes clear now. I didn't see red either. Might there be a glitch in the coding?
-
You're not all going colour blind - it is red on my Kindle but black on the PC. Thank you Fran and tose of you who still didn't understand because I didn't either. I'm going to give it a go on another thread & see what happens.
-
Hmm odd, its red for me regardless of device! Phone, laptop... Always red!
Apologies for confusing everyone!
-
It's black on my laptop using Firefox, but red using the same laptop with Safari, so obviously a browser oddity.
Thanks for the instructions though, I think I managed a proper link in my previous post in the stash sewalong thread.

Did you HAVE to do that Vegegrow!
Oh ok it wasn't your fault ... resposibility for my own actions and all that. I've banned myself from going anywhere near news and current affairs programmes/sites but like a numpty pressed on the link to see if it worked and got Trump on my screen. I'm going to need :toast: to get over the trauma!
Anyway thanks to Fran for explaining all that .... not sure i've got it but at least I'll know which thread to come to when my brain is better engaged!

Thankyou :flower: :flower:

A bit late to the party I know, but does this mean if it does not appear as red text (which mine does not) will it not work?
-
The red text was to draw our attention in how to make the link. Some people, myself included, couldn't see the red. If you practice the hyperlink as Fran has demonstrated, you will see how it works.
-
Thanks I will have to keep practising ;)

:'( just practicing as it seems i am reading a foreign language. No idea what i am doing but it obviously hasn't worked so sorry everyone you may have to live with the full hyperlink thingies in my posts.

urban threads (http://www.urbanthreads.com)
Instead of the closed square bracket, you should have put = and to make a 'short form', write the description followed by [/url]. Give it another go.

I am giving up now and going for a :gin:

Okay, see this

The next hurdle will be placing the short link where you want it in the sentence. Took me a while to master that. 0_0

UttaRetch's description is pretty good, not sure I can add much!
-
Ah! Now I see, just need to figure out how to insert it into a sentence. :)
