Title: Love Style Arc
Post by: maliw on June 01, 2018, 17:24:15 PM
When we were on holiday last year I saw someone wearing a dress that I liked as it looked really comfortable. The nearest I could find was
https://www.stylearc.com/shop/sewing-patterns/adeline-dress/
so I went to Abakhan and bought some linen look fabric and I've finished it today. It's as comfortable as it looks on the pattern, if I make another I will make it slightly longer but it was easy to make, all the pieces went together well. Sorry no pics as it's dark navy so detailing won't show up anyway.

I love that style... but sadly I couldn’t wear it,  I’d look horrendous in it.

I've seen several of those on sewing blogs, it's a very popular pattern.  I bought it myself, yet to sew it though.  I fancy it in linen; lovely for holidays.

My friend has made that pattern and it looks great on her, not so good on me but I do love the idea

I made the Adeline last year in some green linen I found at the bottom of my stash heap   don't usually wear green but it actually looked quite nice on.  I think I straightened out the hem, but if I make it again I'll perhaps do the high-low thing as it's everywhere at the moment.  I like it on me, I have the body to wear it as I have no waist

I love Style Arc patterns - really stylish with great instructions.  My only bug bear is that they come in single sizes (and all the way from Australia)  I'd love to get the multi sized and in pdf format.  I have several of their patterns but have only made up Twiggy (fantastic) and a jacket (not so successful but would definitely give it another go.

I don't know how many Style Arc Patterns I have, it must be at least 20. I have made 4 pairs of Sandra Jeans, 6 Jasmine trousers etc, etc. I am wearing a Marley blouse and Candice skirt today! My avatar is wearing a Skye top and Candice skirt. I like the Adeline dress, but as a 60something pear I don't think it is for me.

I'm trying to decide if the Lacey Dress would suit me and what to make it out of. I don't want it to look like theatre scrubs or a school dress. https://www.stylearc.com/?s=lacey&post_type=product

@Nicola1968 , the pdfs are great, they send you 3 sizes.

@Nicola1968 If you buy the patterns on Amazon you get all the sizes - and they're on Prime, so quick delivery.  I don't think all of the patterns are available, but they have a very large number of them.

I did not know that, thank you <3

@Starryfish give it a try, you might surprise yourself.

I'm a 60 something ex-pear, morphing into an apple but still keeping the pear base. Pumpkin? Anyway I like the wider top & narrower hem, and as per @Nevis5  I have no waist either. The ubiquitous statement necklace helps too. And like most things, the hem length is the key, too long & it goes straight to frumpy, too short, and well I don't have the legs for that.

Just don't do what I did & use material with big circles for a toile. As they were on my shoulders I ended up looking like  gridiron player.

My inherent pdf aversion may have been a factor in my not having tried style arc so far despite seeing many really interesting styles on DF's blog. Mostly, I think it's because since I've returned to sewing I've been sewing for others and perhaps, being non-sewers, they seem more drawn to photos rather than drawings.

I'm now starting sewing for me however and since I've had some good recommendations for specialist pdf pattern printers I'm sure it won't be the case much longer.

I can definitely see why you love that style, maliw, but dresses still aren't my best option even after my big weightloss however it would also work well as a tunic or shorter top.

their jackets are a bit narrow shouldered I've found, so I just allow for that

Their PDFs [now on Etsy or Amazon] come with multi sizes [sometimes just one each side of your chosen one, but that's usually ample]

I have had mixed results with Style Arc patterns so I am hesitant to buy, but whenever I need style ideas that are current, their site is one of the first places I go.

Which ones didn't work for you?

I've just finished the longer version of this
https://www.stylearc.com/shop/sewing-patterns/teddy-designer-top/
I used a pale blue/grey linen type fabric. the neck was a bit fiddly and I haven't got it quite right but hey ho I'm the one that will wear it and you can only tell if you are up close. I'm yet to try it on - I don't know why I haven't :[

Ah maliw, I would love to know how that fits (or see a pic)! I am dithering about that one.  I really like the look, just not sure if how it would be on busty old me :)

@Marniesews I'm PDF averse so I buy the paper Style Arc patterns from either Amazon, Minerva or, if I'm feeling flush and/or like the free monthly pattern, direct from Style Arc themselves.

I feel no need to count them, but the drawer is about as full as it can get. And that's after I donated some (hmm, 2?)  :[

One. Only one. A gift from Mudcat. The Ethel pant and I wear them every day.

120? Style Arc has that many patterns?  :S

I love Style Arc.  I have more than 50 of them ... probably closer to 60.  I've purchased directly from them, via Amazon and Etsy. I admit it's crazy as it is unlikely I will ever use half of them.  The ones I've made have fit pretty well and certainly better than most other pattern brands with minimal tweaks.  Even though I've only made a handful of them most of the one's I've made have been made multiple times.

In my experience SA is well drafted and if you match the notches you will be fine in spite of the sometimes terse directions.  Those directions are best used as an order of operation.

Rene, I'm pretty sure SA has far more than 120.

I'm fairly sure they don't as I've not seen it mentioned anywhere but could someone please confirm - can you get Style Arc pdf patterns in A0 format?

@misschris  thank you.  I hadn't seen that.
I've bought a couple of paper patterns at a time and had a freebie previously but there's one pattern I currently want and the freebies for the last few months haven't been my thing at all.  I've done a couple of PDFs for small tops before but I really don't like the hassle of the A4 sheets.

I’ve only been successful with Style Arc pants, Barb and Margaret. I have the Adeline dress all printed out and ready to stick together. Looks like it’ll mask a few lumps and bumps. I have no mojo at the moment, sadly.
