Have you tried Ravelry (https://www.ravelry.com/)? Thats's my go to for knitting & crochet patterns. Membership is free, you just have to register. Then you can search knitting or crochet, free or paid, even down to needle size, how much wool, type of wool (if you want to).

De-lurking - I joined very recently and am still learning my way around. Ravelry has this one (https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/fatty-lumpkin-the-brave-african-flower-pony-crochet-pattern), which is also available on Etsy (http://https://www.etsy.com/listing/158467460/fatty-lumpkin-the-brave-african-flower) as a download:

Could it be a starting point for you?

Try www.lovecrochet.com
There are a few horse patterns and some unicorns (I guess you could just leave off the horn :S). No cobs as such, but a few adaptations might do it!
Sorry to hear about the loss of the horse. Had your daughter had him/her for a long time?

Many thanks i am going to try and do the one from ravelry

It's so hard to lose animal friends :( The day after I lost my wonderful Berner (avatar), I happened on a Berner puppy stuffed toy and promptly bought it. It still makes me smile. I hope the same idea helps your daughter.
