Access All Accessories / Weaving - a pouch to match the bag
« on: March 05, 2021, 18:24:48 PM »
A little purse/pouch to match the bag I wove into a bag yesterday. A little zipped pocket and some card slots, just big enough for some money, cards and a phone.

Access All Accessories / Bag made with my own fabric
« on: March 04, 2021, 12:56:22 PM »
As a bag maker, I like the totes made from Harris tweed, but never found tweed in the colours I liked. So I started to weave some random colours together (simple tabby weave with acrylic dk with an occasional sparkly wool) and ended up with my first piece of ‘fabric’ to try making a bag (have done plenty of scarves before).
Will attempt a twill with better wool (maybe even on a larger loom when time and money permits), but for now, quite happy with my first attempt

I have a couple of vintage Singers for sale, collection only from central Scotland.

https://pin.it/1Kk8ILR

28K hand crank 1928 with lovely embossed grapevine end panel. C/w shuttle and 3 bobbins. £60

99K electric from 1956. Lovely condition. C/w original box and accessories. Connectors and plugs are there, but needs new foot pedal (had to remove as capacitor went!) £40

Both sew beautifully. Sad to sell these machines (the 99K was my Mums) but moving house and no room for them. Due to the weight of them, I would be looking for collection only.

Anyone local looking for a vintage machine (or 2)?

I would like to try using quilting rulers (with the special ruler foot) to progress from straight lines (and gentle curves) in my quilts.  Does anyone have any experience with these?

I know Westalee do the foot and rulers, and Janome (my machine) does a conversion foot (as part of a set). Silesian also sell the foot separately, and although it is a better price than the others, I don't know what the quality would be like.

My preference would be for the see-through ruler foot, but a price of around £45 seems quite expensive, especially when adding on the price of the special rulers....a basic set of 2 basic rulers with the cheaper metal foot cost about £100!

Any advice, anyone?

Patchwork & Quilting ... Welcome to the Darkside / Border fabrics
« on: May 19, 2017, 16:11:05 PM »
I fancy having a go at Jinny Beyers BOM 2017... the Moroccan Mystery Quilt. But one of the fabrics is a border print by Jinny.  The cost of importing it from USA is horrendous, so looking for a supplier in the U.K. but is not proving fruitful.

Anyone seen any either of these Jinny's border prints online? It's from the Casablanca range...

I don't want to buy other fabrics to do the BOM if I can't get the border print to do with it

Sewing Spaces and Furniture / Sewing machine cabinets
« on: April 04, 2017, 12:45:43 PM »
Looking for opinions on a couple of cabinets....

Need a cabinet which doesn't take up too much space in the closed position, but has extensions to the back and (left hand) side. I am looking for something with a centre 'needle position' (whilst sitting), but most of them have panels or cupboards just to the left of the 'needle position', which would get in the way of my chair.

I know the most popular make is Horn, which is quite widely available.  The only one which Horn looks suitable, seems to be the Superior 2042.

The other make is RMF, which is manufactured in Germany, (the only UK distributor is Franklins). It would be something from their Extend range.

Anyone got either of these models? Any 'dealers' out there to avoid or recommend if I go ahead with a purchase?

I cannot get to any of the shops to see either of these models in person, and as this is a huge purchase for me, I would appreciate any feedback.

Hi, I'm new... / I'm here too
« on: March 05, 2017, 08:29:24 AM »
Finally got round to registering here.  Not much time to take part at the moment (elderly Mum in hospital), but good to know it's here when normal life returns for me.  I'll keep dipping in, in the meantime.
