Thank you for resurrecting this thread and sharing your experiences, @Boppingbeth .  I find this thread so interesting.  Maybe 2024 will be the year I find which patterns work for me.

A Good Yarn / Re: Anyone used Drops Alpaca?
« on: November 18, 2023, 18:34:20 PM »
I’m surprised to hear that, @Sheilago .  I haven’t used the alpaca but I have used other Drops yarns and have always found them to be very soft.

It probably would soften with washing, but it’s a risk so might be better to return it.

ETA I’ve removed the other thread

A Good Yarn / Re: AUTUMN SOCK KNIT ALONG. 2023 New

I found Winwickmum an excellent site and pattern. I've used  this for my socks as well as for the males in my family.  :)

That’s what I used for my first ever pair.

Does anyone have a good pattern for a stretchy cast on and rib?  Mine goes a bit saggy after a couple of washes.

I wait with baited breath

I tidied my sewing room over the summer and it’s still tidy, so I won’t be spending half of the month looking for the project.

I’m the same, @fajita .  I probably won’t go and then regret it, although I may go and then regret it.

Have you used it before @Pearl? Just wondered if it’s good. I always use Regia for socks as I wouldn’t want to go to all the effort of knitting socks if the yarn wasn’t long lasting.

No, I haven’t.  I usually use Regia or Yorkshire Spinners.  I’ll give it a go though, @Sheilago

No 14 and 19 for October

For me that’s the Spirals quilt I started at a Jan Hassard workshop about 100 years ago.  I’m hand quilting it and am about a third of the way through.  It’s not very big so I hope to have it finished next month.  19 is knitting for charity, which is easy to achieve, so I’m happy with this draw.

Oooo, sock yarn!  I might need some of that.  Luckily, I work very close to Lidl.  :thumb:

I’ve been making a 4 patch lattice quilt for DD using a video by Missouri Quilt Company.  I’m working systematically, instead of my usual haphazard approach, so I might get it finished this year.

But surely @Acorn the whole point of doing /  making something is to finish it?? Stuff hanging around isn't productive and the impetus to get it finished must diminish. Then, all you have is a pile of part used fabrics  ::thinks:: good for nothing and no end product

For me, it’s much more about the process (which is just as well ).  I enjoy trying new techniques.

September’s numbers are 1 and 15.

For me, a row-by-row quilt and a sashiko panel that I haven’t begun yet.  Happy with those.

@Acorn , do you have a pic of a top you’ve made using number 3, please?

Obviously as any garment I have made is living in a box (although one did make it to the bin recently), I don’t have a list, but will be watching this thread with interest.

I still hope to learn to make garments and am on the waiting list for a course at a local college.
