Title: What fabric is this?
Post by: Jo on May 25, 2017, 20:21:20 PM
I need a bit of help identifiying some double knit fabric.
The label says it's 68% viscose, 27% polyamide and 5% elastane.
I have a pair of rtw pants made out of it and it's just awesome. It's medium to heavy,  wears perfectly (no getting fluff bits like ponte). It is similar to ponte and scuba, but feels much nicer.
Sorry for the hair, when you have 3 cats and a dog, hair is just part of the outfit :)

Well, it's a double knit jersey,  68% viscose, 27% polyamide and 5% elastane.
The 5% elastane tells you that it's fairly stretchy

The only other thing you would need to know is the weight - gms per square metre (or American ounces per square yard).
Unfortunately, very few RTW clothes labels give you that, and most rolls of fabric for the retail market don't tell you either.

That's why buying buying fabric by mail order is so difficult, you really need to be able to see and feel it.  But if there are no fabric shops near to where you live you have to rely on however the vendor describes it.
