Hello. I've just subscribed after lurking a while. Dipped into garment sewing a couple of years ago with a "how hard can it be?" challenge posed by my H to find a linen shirt that wasn't white or pale blue. Oddly enough the pocket was the hardest bit.

As someone making it up as I go, live the shared tips and wisdom here.

Hello Ros and welcome from me too. One of the best things about this place is that we're such a disparate lot that there's usually at least one or two people who've already had a go at whatever sewing discipline/technique/fabric you're battling with.

Hi @Ros and welcome. If you are anywhere near Macclesfield you may already know about those great fabric shops, Shufflebothams and the Fent Shop.

Thanks for the kind messages. I'm near Northwich so tend to use either the shops at Lady Heyes or Northwich town centre for threads, buttons etc. And I am within easy reach of Abakhan of course.

Welcome to the forum.  No surprise about the pocket.  Even the simplest one needs to be precisely made or garment screams 'home made'.   :)
