Title: Oh the false economy.
Post by: Catllar on December 03, 2018, 20:51:31 PM
Another person made 20 crossover ballet-style tops, complete with frilled sleeves and neck frills. This to take some pressure off me. Only fly in the ointment is that they don't fit the children. They were delivered on Sunday so I was delighted to find this out. They have to be delivered on Saturday at the Christmas party. So guess who's got to sort out the muddle?

There’s nothing like being busy, then wishing you’d just done the one extra job yourself...

That is rubbish, I hope the tweaking goes ok!

Don't forget to have a good cry. Sounds like you're due one.

Best of luck on the completion!

I just need the magic"making fabric appear from nowhere fairy" to do her stuff!

It's such a pain when that sort of thing happens.  It would be easy to say pass them back to the original maker to sort out, but that won't solve the problem and it would leave everyone, including the children, unhappy.

It sounds as though they are all too small!  If that is the case could you pass them all down one child and just make one for the biggest child?

I've made a start - will make 6 brand new tops from white lycra - and just for fun I thought I'd make them the right size for the girls - I'm  totes mad I am!

This means I can re-allocate the small jobs - even the ones with arms for octopuses can be re-jigged. We have sleeves for body builders and sleeves for Olive Oyl as well. Oh such a help! I don't have any of the original fabric ( thank god, cos it's ghastly) the white lycra is far better but that had been earmarked for another group and is in any case made into skirts that need unpicking first. Happy days!

Well done C!!!  Good job you managed to get them done or there would have been a lot of disappointed small children.

Yeah we need pics ... before and after if you have but also ...

what happened to the perpetrator?

Im interested to know whether she turns up, takes a seat and at some point in the show, turns to the person next to her and proudly says 'I made those costumes you know!'

BTW .. Did she know that none of them fitted???

Well done Catlar!  Blimey, you must have been sewing round the clock to get through all that.

Well the perpetrator is our President's Mum ( no, not THAT President - our association president) and she'd be mortified to hear they didn't fit ( or all the other tawdry problems) Fortunately she lives in Spain, unfortunately she is very likely to see them from her front row seat when they will be used! I don't have any before pictures and I'll see if I can get a picture of the little ones wearing them - It ain't pretty even now ( apart from the ones I made from scratch of course !!)

Just to help thing out on the "Oooh how lovely" front, I made 19 flowers - well, I bought 19 large white fabric roses, cut of the  wire stems, glued on hair elastics then used deep burgundy nail polish to tip each petal in order to tie the colours in with the cross-overs.

Ok, so you asked for it - brace yourselves and consider that I did the best I could and that the white ones are my work. here  is one group of little people with their teacher Flo. Again - I did the best I could ( sob)

They're all supposed to be tied to the other side through the hole left in the seam for that purpose, but by this stage, who cares!!

Once these lil darlings are whirling and twirling all over the stage, no-one will notice a thing awry Catllar ... panic not!

Just makes me cringe to see some of these ! Never going to let someone else "help" again - far too stressful.

Whatever you think, forget those thoughts, I think you've made a beautiful job of them

So we had the annual general meeting this week and showed the prototype costumes. All got the thumbs up apart form one group who want sleeves  so I think I'll make a batch of the arm things that they can wear under the dresses, save me faffing around a bit. Will make a start when we are back from holiday.
