Patterns Discussion / Pattern Sales Ain't Wot They Used to Be!
« on: May 21, 2021, 20:28:39 PM »
Got the latest pattern sale email from Jaycott's. If you're into sewing Cosplay stuff fill your boots! Pattern sales used to be across the entire range of the individual brand but it seems these days that it's only small portion of patterns on sale. Am I missing something? Any idea why the sales seem to be so meagre?

Well I got my hoop and the Husqvarna recognised it. Double whammy because it was a third party make hoop from America and I got 6 magnets with it, did not incur any more charges to import it (was under the £135).

Literally cock-a-hoop

I have a small metal hoop that I love to use but sometimes it takes me a while to prise the magnets apart they are sooo strong!

Thanks Celia. The "Buy" button has been pressed!

Are Pfaff and Husqvarna Viking Hoops interchangeable? I want to buy a metal hoop for my Husqvarna but it's out of stock, however the Pfaff equivalent is in stock. Very tempted!

Fun with Fabric / I Wish
« on: April 26, 2021, 09:26:29 AM »
I wish more online fabric shops could include short videos on how the fabric handles. Minerva Crafts do it and I've never made a mistake in ordering the right type of fabric for any of my projects. (not related to Minerva!).

Second wish for more fabric shops on the south coast of England which stock a good variety of reasonably priced fabrics. I have to rely on an annual trip to Goldhawk Road to get anything decent  :vintage:

Doesn't look like their designers are looking forward to Spring very much. Maybe the skirt with the sheer panel, but that's about it.

I don't really have any decent fabric shops near me either. I tend to buy a lot from Minerva Crafts. They have taken the time to post videos of their fabrics being handled which does help a lot.

I'm glad charity shops have re-opened, they are a good source of patterns for me. I got this one the other day for 50p. I didn't know who Ian Thomas was. I googled him and found out that he was dressmaker to the Queen and contributed towards her Coronation gown. The pattern is uncut and in perfect condition. The Sewing Pattern fairy was def with me that day!   [ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Got to wondering the other day if we are ever going to see discounted pattern offers again from Vogue, Simplicity etc.
The US Vogue site currently has 30% off, but not a whiff of a sale in dear old UK  :'(

Yes, I re-checked and it is a made up pattern. Maybe I should change the post title to Oh Dear Love Sewing!! Sorry Vogue.  :(
Still a sewing shambles though!!!

Leafing through the new Love Sewing and came across this shambles of a made up pattern. Wouldn't you think with all the money they charge for their patterns they could afford an iron?

Thanks for the replies. Yes I'll get a bog standard clipper and see how I go. I'll report back here. I like clipping all the jump threads on the back of my work, that relaxes me too  :meow:

I'm looking at the Peggy's Stitch Eraser and at the exorbitant price. Do you think there is any difference between it and a normal electric beard clipper? :sew:
