Vintage Machines / Clickety Click 66
« on: March 13, 2023, 14:22:00 PM »
My hand crank 201k went into storage with so many other items including my good coats! I retained the Bernina 1080 and my overlocker.

Today I bought an Electric Singer 66k nice little machine still somewhat heavy for me these days. It's in lovely working condition, decals are a little worn but runs beautifully. Did some googling and found a motor foot pedal and lamp for a 66k which can be used on my 201k when I eventually get it back.

Total spend £59.73.

Will post photos later.

I have quite a few metres of this pure silk 2 ply fabric, hard to put a name to the colour, peach/sand/honey???

Suitable for tops and dresses fairly crisp handle but is soft and smooth to touch and very comfortable to wear. I've used it for the inner lining of facemarks and for lining a faux suede jacket.Photos show it against a green gold taffeta and white net.

£8 per metre.

Happy to send samples if there is any interest.  [ You are not allowed to view attachments ]    [ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

The Show Must Go On / Tutu odds and sods!
« on: March 27, 2021, 13:51:00 PM »
Not sure how many classical tutu makers are on here these days and it's a while since I ventured down that route and I appreciate that stretch tutus have become more popular with the advent of top quality patterns available.

Having a sort of of my stash and wondered if there was any interest on here for what still I have? if so, please ask questions and I'll list them for sale with photos.

#3 Silver hooks & bars
Old English Cotton Bobbinet-prewashed so a very pale ivory shade.
Cotton Backed Satin Coutil in Tea Rose (ballet) Pink).
Speciality English Multi-filament net. Very fine but very stiff and suited to top layers of pancake tutus and top plates. White only.
Various 100% Silk Dupions, predominately paler colours.

I'm not a quilter so I'll describe this as best I can.

Not fleece as most think of it, it is quite stable with a woven backing, has been used for light weight quilting, two layers ave been used and spray basting worked extremely well. Child's quilted floor mat, curtain interlining and bag interlining.

Extremely well behaved in sewing and in use of finished items. @Mike Bateman can testify to this!  He made very large floor length curtains.

Washes perfectly without shrinkage or distortion. Photos depict washed fabric.

166cms wide. £3.00 per metre plus p&p at cost.  [ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Vintage Machines / Young People and Vintage Machines.
« on: March 01, 2020, 10:54:32 AM »
Yesterday I sold a vintage mechanical machine , straight stitch, zigzag facility with just a few stitches built in stitches only.

The buyer was a young man studying at college, textile design or whatever they deign to call these courses now.

it was so nice to find a youngster (no disrespect meant here) so excited about what he can achieve with an older machine, a little thought, vision  and application.

Sadly so many are actively encouraged to buy a modern all singing all dancing computerised machine when there are lots of perfectly useable older machines around which can be purchased at very reasonable prices. Indeed some are even given away for free.

Vintage Machines / Are you a purist with your vintage machine>
« on: November 24, 2019, 13:56:02 PM »
Curios to know what others think and do with their vintage machines to continue using them today.

Who searches for and waits to source genuine parts and accessories, who utilises generic items, whatever they can to enable them to continue using their machine, e.g. adaptors for pressure feet, screw on or clip on? Rufflers, binders and such like?

Many of these after-market and 'universal' fittings are far more inexpensive than genuine and original items and obviously much more readily available.

ETA What gem would you love to find?

Interesting being a purist can be costly and time consuming.
