Sewing Spaces and Furniture / Re: Multiple machines
« on: May 08, 2017, 15:50:29 PM »
I have now lost count of my machines, which is a shameful situation.  The ones I use at work are the 15k and 66k treadles, one in my office, the other in the front office with the Riccar overlocker and the Singer 327k.  There are various others under the desk, cutting table, ironing board.  My preferred sewing machines at home, live on a long IKEA desk surface.  The Pfaff 1475cd, Pfaff 4850 Coverstyle (Combi O/L & CStitch), and the Bernina 730 lives at the back (should the need for her services arise).  There is also my Singer Slantshank in a Horn Cabinet, and another 15k Treadle which atm is unused.

In the wardrobe / Re: Who suits wrap dresses?
« on: May 08, 2017, 14:59:03 PM »
I always fancy wrap dresses, but they are never a success.  I'm thinking of one in particular, I made it, and DF made it. I hated mine, but DF went on to make several.  :S

Wonder if it would be nice in a woven?  It says moderate stretch.... a nice cool cotton appeals to me....

You're right Fran, when I think about it, the stuff I wear to bed, is a similar style to what I wear day to day.  :|  Yoga pant style bottoms and loose t shirt type tops .....

Sorted, I must have this pattern.

I love that top, but not to wear 'out', I think it would be really comfy to sleep in....  :|

Oh, and I think DD would like it too.

It's gone on the list!

Previous sewalong entries / Re: UFO Attack!
« on: May 08, 2017, 09:20:18 AM »
OK ladies and gents, I feel very proud to announce that my second blind (of a pair), is now hung.  After a couple of years marinating in the UFO pile, it's done!! I feel a very happy bunny!  :)

Also a blouse, made recently, but never finished off, is now hanging in the wardrobe.  As is a white top, which only needed facings tacking.  In fairness, this only got done because I wanted to wear it..... ;)

Also made a start on another blouse which may turn out to be a wadder, and a dress which needed only the neckline and hems doing - neckline now done, just the hems to sort out.

UFO attacks have entered a ceasefire period for the moment, as DD has asked for a Dorothy costume (WizOfOz) by the 20th!  Better get a shift on!

This thread is excellent motivation, thank you!

Patterns Discussion / Savage Coco-Presto! PopoverTop
« on: May 06, 2017, 09:08:16 AM »
This  is going to be one of those 'Why is it' sort of posts, so apologies in advance.

Why is it that I've made this pattern twice before - with no problems, that it gives me grief on this one?

I bought the fabric last week, and decided that this was what I wanted to make.  It's a great pattern for work, and really simple.  Unless, you choose striped, very thin, not a lot of stretch, fabric.  :(   The overlocker also hated it, as it kept curling at the edges.  There are also 3 areas at the front join, which have had to be stabilised because when pulling out the basting, tiny holes appeared in the fabric!  :o

I also decided to line the back with nude mesh as it was very fine, and I'm glad I did.

The top is now finished (see pics below), but unlike the others I've made, feels tight, especially the arms.  Good job it's for work.

I think it's lovely - fabric, curved hems and all!

Far too good for gardening:)

Vintage Machines / Re: I have joined the 201k club too
« on: May 05, 2017, 10:06:41 AM »
Excellent buy MC!  Enjoy your machine!  I have a couple of these, and aluminium one, and an old cast iron, one treadle, and one a dual fuel (treadle and electric).

With the old machines, the accessories are what make them more versatile.  If you enjoy using the 201k, it may be an idea to buy a buttonhole foot.  You will have perfect buttonholes every time!

House Beautiful / Re: Roman Blind UFO - Yes!!
« on: May 05, 2017, 09:55:25 AM »
Suzie, I brought it into work to finish off, and it got quite creased, but I needed to hang it as we've nothing on the window now.  It's also quite a wide window, and when I climbed down, it didn't look quite 'right'.  It will only take 1/2 and hour, but it's such a pain - literally!

Upside is, I also cleaned the windows and upper frame, which tend to get a bit neglected.  :|

OK, it is hung, albeit in a hurry, and it looks fine.  I may take it down one more time, just to tweak a bit - I can't stay up there for long periods of time as it kills my knees.

Now onto the chair covers.

No 'like' button for me either, well it's there, but it's white, and it doesn't work.  I also use Firefox.
