Vintage Machines / Re: My 1956 Singer 99k treadle sewing machine

Forgot to add that I learned to use sewing machines with a model 99-13 when I was 10 yr old. Looks like you have the 99-31 which I have one waiting to be put back into action. I also have a first model 99K with hand crank from 1922.

Look forward to seeing any updates and any work produced  :thumb:

Sewing Spaces and Furniture / Re: Sewing chair

I'd be finding a shop with chairs I could actually try before spending some pennies ... but I am known to be a tight bugger  Some things I don't like to order online (unless I have already know the brand/model before and it's cheaper).

All my chairs have been seconds or donated so far  0_0

I bought a wool mat (17x24) a couple of years ago and while happy with it, just don't use it that much to be honest. Would be much better suited to someone that quilts regular  :thumb:

For myself, it was a waste of pennies

I use heavy canvas regular (16-18oz.) with a old Singer 15-91 without any issues. I'm a sucker for the old machines though. I also use a secondary vintage Japanese made machine for zigzag work (same Class 15 bobbin). The reason I personally prefer the model 15 over the 201's is the maintenance is less involved and the Class 15 bobbin holds more thread  :thumb:

Cool!  Fabric paint works too - in the UK the brand is Dylon.  You must not to overload your brush or it can bleed across the boundary of the design, particularly on synthetic or semi-synthetic fabrics, but I've used it successfully in the past to make reusable signage for primary school cake sales and second-hand uniform sales.

Will be checking out what is available here over the weekend. I remember the Dylon brand when I was in the UK (moved here just over a decade now). I'm always complaining about the choices here, not to mention the prices here

That is absolutely super.  Well done although unlike your wife I would have taken the easy route out and bought one.  Really impressed @SewCanDad

I would of bought also once upon a time but now I have the spare time, it's not an issue  :thumb: and many thanks.

Thanks for the kind words  :embarrassed: I like cheap and this was as low cost as I could get it  :) Canvas and muslin are perfect for this sort of thing.
Kidda hasn't used it yet  :boohoo: lol but her friends are already asking for something similar which this time ... is a no because of time involved.
Think I'll put fabric pens on my list to Santy this year ... just in case I'm finally on the good list

Again, thanks for the comments ... much appreciated  :embarrassed:
