I have a Kromski Harp Loom.  It's a rigid heddle loom and I absolutely love it.
I have the largest version (32") which is somewhat big and cumbersome but they start at 8" which would be much easier.

It’s lined with the same cotton fabric as is on the outside.

@stephanelli is your singing bowl brass or crystal?
Oh nice!  It's brass - so I'm worried about getting dents or it getting bent in some way.  Perhaps I'm being overly cautious but I know I can be clumsy.

It's beautiful!  I love the fabric!
Is it lined with anything protective or just two layers of fabric?  I always worry about damaging my singing bowl when I travel with it (but I do only have one rights now so I'm protective off it).

Hand embroidery was one of the first things I was taught as a child by my mum.  Mostly cross stitch and other stitches that could easily be done on Aida.  I still like to have at least one cross stitch on the go.

I've done a couple of bits of other embroidery with more interesting stitches, a little practise piece and then a tote bag kit.  I've got the supplies to start another piece when I'm brave enough and have the time.  It's much more detailed!

Corsets / Re: Seam Allowances on Corset Patterns

Yes, you will need to add seam allowances and how much would depend on how you are going to do the channels for the boning.  However, on a toile, I would leave more than the seam allowance so that you have room to manoevre (how is that spelt?!?!?!) during fitting and you need to let out any seams, depending on how tight you are intending to lace the corset and to ensure that the back lacing panels are kept straight.

Thanks for your advice!  I'm going to start work on my toile this afternoon so fingers crossed it goes okay!

I have not made this pattern but I would add a seam allowance to the mock up just to make sure.  Sometimes corset patterns come up short and it is always easier to remove a bit than add some after!

Thanks for your thoughts here!  This is my first corset so I'm questioning every step right now

Corsets / Seam Allowances on Corset Patterns
« on: May 11, 2022, 17:05:32 PM »
I'm starting to make the Victoria Corset from Sew Curvy.
The pattern is given without seam allowances to allow for accurate stitching.
I need to add seam allowances to the lengthwise seams (obviously) but I was wondering if I need to the same for the top and bottom edges that will be bound with bias binding?  I brought a kit that came with pre-cut boning so I'm hoping I won't need to do any cutting of boning for this corset...

Any thoughts or ways of working this out before I make the mock-up?

Hi, I'm Stephanelli!

I'm new around here but not too sewing.  I've been sewing on and off for around 8 or so years now.  I enjoy dressmaking, patchwork and quilting.  I particularly enjoy projects with a historic hint to them (although I'm not a serious historian, I will quite happily use modern fabrics and techniques) - I particularly enjoy Butterick's Making History patterns.
I'm also interested in corsetry and have finally decided to try and make a corset, I recently purchased a kit from Sew Curvy and can't wait to get started on it when it arrives!

Aside from sewing, I love most textile crafts including knitting, crochet, weaving, spinning and embroidery.  I've recently brought an embroidery/sewing machine and am looking forward to starting a proper project on it (rather than just testing things!)

I have 3 machines I'm using nowadays - a Silver CH03 sewing/embroidery combo machine, a Singer 15K from the 30s or 40s which I converted into a handcrank machine (but I have the motor still should I want to turn it back to motorised) and a Janome 8002D Overlocker.
Prior to getting the Silver I have spent most of my sewing time using a Singer Simple 3223 but when I'd tested the Silver out for what it could do, I decided that I didn't need two modern sewing machines so have recently sold the Singer 3223.

It's lovely to meet you all and I look forward to seeing you round the forum!
