« on: August 07, 2023, 11:21:37 AM »
I have oodles of lovely fabric  - now found.
The aim is to make a bed quilt for us.
I have a pattern but it isn't quite right,
I would like a woven lattice but the pattern I have is for a straight lattice

Can anyone point me in the right direction,  I've looked on Internet but  :S

I have been tempted for some time.  In my yoof I made all  my clothes but things have changed.
A large variety of types of fabric for a start.
I need a dressing gown that will travel rather than carrying my big  fleece one.
I have purchased a pattern  but where to go on fabric - not a  clue

Current Projects / Soft furnishings- no this is the right thread
« on: August 18, 2022, 09:22:49 AM »
I have begun to  make a  couple of cushion covers.

The trip to Doughty's produced the extra fabric required znd I am using g curtain linen that the local shop was selling at £5 a metre. I bought a selection of metres.
Think I may go back for some to a fabric  make some curtains with..

First I am making 2 cushion covers using the star pattern from September 2020 quiltathon.
They are interlocking and will be  gift for sons Civil Partnership Day. Using their fave colours with interlocking stars.
Sentimental I know  but mostly I am

The linen i bought from Doughty's is a bit floppy so sprayed starch on it. That's a new thing to me but am wondering if  some lightweight iron on interfacing might be a more permanent solution.
What a mess the starch made!

Current Projects / Bjay's zigzag journey
« on: March 05, 2022, 18:39:21 PM »
The aim of this is a quilt for a VW Campavan
it is for DD and SIL. The request was for zig zag retro in pale colours.

Much thought and a long time in Doughty's resulted in a Liquorice Allsort colour scheme. Doighty's were great and gave me a printout of the sweets

So it will be a rail fence design with black zig zags

I have spent a couple  of hours making the pattern so I don;t get the squares in ghe wrong place
It will be done in QAYG quarters (I hope)

Apart from the colours I have a Snoopy Campavan fabric and a Liqourice All sorts fabric for the binding

Current Projects / Bjay's Ribbon Quilt

]After a very enjoyable time at Doughty's the fabric has been sorted.
This is for a 15 year old with strong ideas and she wanted a red background
It's a good thing I am now accumulating a small stash as one just didn't work but I had an alternative available.
It was hard transferring pretty pastels of original pattern into  'teenage bright'

to the left Horizontal; right vertical

Current Projects / Aunty J's Lap Quilt
« on: June 07, 2021, 16:29:18 PM »
A.J is having major surgery so I am making her  quilt that will fit on her reclining chair.

I have bought the fabric but now am wondering whether I should wash it first. Usually I don't unless it is for a baby

This is going to be in a Disappearing 9 patch pattern

House Beautiful / Straying out of the Darkside
« on: January 05, 2021, 12:08:46 PM »
Hi
So I am unsure whether to buy a roman blind or make  'good' weight curtain.

The landing window needs a single curtain. I have just taken down a very old and , on close inspection, tatty curtain.
It is so long since I made any curtains I need a bit of help with fabric widths and yardage.
The one I have taken down was 2 widths of 50inch wide fabric
Can I get stuff that wide?
Are there some decent curtain fabric shops online?

Curtain pole is 180cm

I am having problems getting the tension right for the quilting.
No matter what  number i move the wheel to it comes out loopy on the top and smooth on the bottom. I've also tried different stitch  length etc

I know it needs a service but quilt needs to be finished first. It is fine when  ot quilting

New needle, clean etc befoe I began

Any suggestions?

Current Projects / Captain America Shield here I come!
« on: November 03, 2020, 15:25:03 PM »
Having been requested by SIL for a quilt, and pointing out he will be 4th in the queue he seemed undeterrred so now to work out how the hell to do it

I found what he wanted on Google and then searched for a way that is within my capabilities. I hit on the idea of a Dresden pattern when I saw this

Thanks @BrendaP for your input. Those numbers will be useful I think.
This is a long term thing but it gives me an aim

At least there won't be a lot of decsions about colours!
