My first workshop and successfully made a cushion incorporating appliqué butterflies with deep borders and log cabin corners, and a bit of quilting stitch around the border of the finished butterflies.
I really like her relaxed, natural looking animal templates and was so impressed with how she can cut shapes directly into fabric by eye.
She doesn't use bondaweb and recommends cutting templates in light sheer fabric so they lay on the project fabric and don't slip as much as paper might do.
I learned a great deal in the 6 hours including using embroidery foot.
Very worthwhile and I'm fired up to make a matching cushion so I get more practice and reinforce the learning.

Sounds like you learnt a lot Annie, a matching cushion sounds like a great idea.
I love applique, my only problem is that it's so time consuming. :(
