So I was wandering about at the local big box Haby store specifically looking for fabric for my Tiger wall hanging pattern( a very sweet gift from Im...thankyou again my sweet) when I spied that all the fat quarters were on sale....10 for $25.00, and at that moment a very, very pretty floral print fat quarter waved at me.
"No" said I....."I can't stop and check your quality...I have to buy tiger stuff today"
So then the fat quarter yelled at me.."Hey, I'm gorgeous and not too bad quality and I would be perfect for your New York Beauty quilt patterns...come on...you know you want to."
Well I didn't want to be rude but neither did I want to appear too needy so I did a quick lap of the blenders and widebacks section before nonchalantly sidling up to the little floral fat quarter and giving it a bit of serious consideration. It sat politely in my hand while I considered its colours, it's "feel", and the possibilities it offered me.
And so, here I am........sunglasses on and merrily constructing what i think I am going to call "My Garden" quilt. LOL, this may be my only ever success at gardening!!!
So the plan is to do rows of New York Beauties, each row a different variation and each row having its own floral feature fabric and associated complementary colours. I was thinking maybe to do rows in each of the 4 seasons themes..hmm maybe, or maybe just stay with summer garden throughout. I'm going to make it up as I go along but have already picked my variation blocks and spent a gazillion hours photocopying all my foundation papers out, cutting all the little blighters out and whacking them in zip lock bags. I do love FPP but the initial organisation for the project is always a huge task.
-
That' going to be fantastic. I think that bossy little floral is loving lording it over the blenders.
-
Fabulous ... keep us posted Rubes!
-
So, row number 1 is done. The next row will be a different set of bright colours, feature fabric and background fabric but still following the same bright floral theme. I'm really liking how it is coming together and reckon I am going to be an expert on curved piecing by the time I'm finished!
-
Blimey, The undisputed FPP Queen !!!
-
Just WOW. :loveit: :loveit: :loveit:
-
Blimey!! <3
-
That is wonderful!!! Just the thing to cheer a grim October day! 0_0
-
Wow - that is stunning. :loveit:
-
So cheerful!
-
I love it! Like you I love FPP - it just gives such precise results.
-
Wow @rubywishes you must have the patience of a saint! It's stunning work. Well done :toast:
-
So I have now removed the large floral backgrounds from the blocks as I have decided on a new approach for this project.
-
Awwwwwwww!!! I was in awe of your floralness ... Which direction are you going for ... Black ????
-
@Iminei LOL my floralness looked awesome until I had a LOT of floralness in one place :x
So now I'm thinking.....(1) pale pastel backgrounds to the blocks which will be set on overlapping point in a central
column.
(2) surrounding blocks of a large floral print which includes the same pastel background colour.
This is actually one of the patterns in the book. Initially I was going to make up my own pattern from the blocks in the book but after seeing how someone else on facebook did this particular pattern I just totally fell in love with it and grabbed my seam ripper with gusto and vigour. Now I just have to hunt for the fabric that is sitting in my head.
-
Loved the florisity but you know best. Can't wait to see it.
You are a glutton for punishment, FPP is truly the work of the

Gads what's happening to me.....I spent forever...and I mean forever in the P&Q shop yesterday looking for the perfect shade of yellow :o :S for the background of this quilt! Yellow...I never buy yellow....I never wear yellow....the only yellow I like is a banana or a custard and even that is a pale yellow but the shade I've come home with is bright, sunflower yellow :x and sigh....it looks good.
A sad, sad day for me indeed. I can't believe I've turned to bright, bold, "buzz in your face" colours and shades after a lifetime of autumnal mutes and shades. And I haven't even been drinking...much......
-
Could be a reaction to a lifetime of muted colours ????
-
I love yellow; along with blue it's my favourite colour...... should have been Swedish :D
-
Blue and yellow make green.....................
-
:D :D

Blue and yellow make green.....................
Greybird you are very naughty! LOL! :x
Oh my goodness, I feel like I'm a little brown bird sitting in its nest looking at a big freakin' yellow cuckoo that has somehow hatched in my nest amongst all my lovely little brown and muted birdies. Not sure how I feel about it but I suppose I must love it as it has hatched in my nest! I'm feeling quite unsure about it and may never be able to eat banana custard again! Pics to follow once I stop changing my mind about the layout....and the yellow....and the big red flowers..and the......and the.....sigh....I just need to go and stroke some nice dark batiks for a while and then I'll be fine.
-
Stop teasing us!!! Pictures, I cant wait to see it!
Lx
-
Alright then...here is the current cuckoo version 2,067,899!
-
That is really lovely!
-
A lot of detailed work, certainly worth it. It's gorgeous! :)
-
......or this?
-
What does the writing say ????
-
I like number two - those are blocks are awesome! You are so clever, I can never see myself doing anything quite that complicated and getting it right, my blocks would never match up.
-
I think the plain background shows off the blocks better - how would that one look with the yellow squares behind the circles?
-
What does the writing say ????
"Warning, unexploded projectiles"
Don't know why I have it hanging there; Mr.Ruby pinned it there and I've just never bothered to take it off. Sorry, boring story. |O
-
@Ploshkin .....what about white perhaps to give a sharp frame?
-
White could certainly work. I think it's one of those things I would leave out for a few days in different guises and stare / squint / glance at every time I pass. I find it helps with indecision, I do it with borders and bindings.

I am so disappointed! I assumed it said 'Warning, unexploded projects' and referred to your sewing room!
-
..sigh....unhappy with colours, some of the fabric (cheaper stuff I must admit) has stretched to bu--ery, can't decide on the background, wasted too much time trying to get it right and am losing confidence in bucket loads so have binned the lot. :( and retired with a glass of wine to lick my wounds.
-
Nooooooo, I thought they were lovely! Don't lose confidence - hugs and wine coming your way. :toast:
-
If all goes t*ts-up...... Resort to :toast:
Then....retrieve it! It's gorgeous!
-
if you send me yours, I'll send you mine ???
-
Nooooo! Get them out of the bin and put them out of sight for a bit and stop thinking about them. When you revisit them I'm sure you will find that they are not the monsters that have currently formed in your head.
-
If it's any help I preferred the first one over the rest. :loveit:
