In the wardrobe / Keep, recycle, or...?
« on: February 04, 2020, 13:54:01 PM »
I've noticed that some of you lovely lot are constantly on the make, of garments that is. What always crosses my mind is what do you do when your wardrobes and drawers get full with it all?

I regularly have a clear out of older stuff that I'm sick to the back teeth of, and donate to charity. This makes room for newer garments that I do enjoy wearing.

My bestie has lived in the same house for nearly forty years and she has one bedroom full to bursting with clothes, she has things going back to the seventies  :o Every so often she'll have a fleabay purge but she buys vintage clothes everywhere she goes so the stock never depletes.

How do you deal with ever-growing wardrobes?

In the wardrobe / Pattern hack top
« on: February 01, 2020, 10:19:36 AM »
This top is the SA Adeline Dress shortened into top length and with the neckline changed from a V to round.

I cut out the shoulder/sleeve then stitched it in with the checks running a different way. I also made two front pieces in order to change the neckline at the back. I used up the last of my brushed cotton, and bound the edges in the last piece of some cotton lawn.

I will make it again, maybe a stripe would be effective, or contrasting prints?

Sewing Machines / Sewing with the bobbin thread

I've heard about sewing with the bobbin thread through the needle for use on delicate fabrics, has anyone tried this?

The Haberdashery / Rough pins

A few of my pins have 'gone rough' - they don't slide into fabric very well. What causes this?

In the wardrobe / Jersey Courtney
« on: December 03, 2019, 14:39:15 PM »
Finished this SA Courtney top today using BF discounted jersey fabric. The hem is an utter disgrace, it just does what jersey does  :S

I renew my vow to never sew with this type of fabric again  ><

I love the top though  ;)

In the wardrobe / Floral robe
« on: November 29, 2019, 13:46:51 PM »
I've finished my robe  :)

It's in cotton lawn from Croft Mill, not quite the right time of year just now, but come springtime I'll be wafting around like a good 'un.

It's oversized and ankle length as I had hoped.

Your Favourite Suppliers / Croftmill trouble
« on: November 07, 2019, 18:55:57 PM »
I ordered the fabric for my robe project - as well as some other stuff for a christmas pressie - a few days ago and consequently got a phone call the next day to tell me my robe fabric was out of stock. I requested a refund and said I'd get back to them. So I had a look around and picked an alternative and called them the next day to check they had it in stock before ordering online.

All good, ordered, and received today - 2 metres short :S  They sent me 3 metres each of my two different fabrics but for my robe I wanted 5. Anyway another telephone call and they will send out the remainder and more to cover it.

Now this wouldn't be so bad but the last order before this one was c*cked-up where they didn't send the quantity I ordered.

It's just inconvenient really, as when I call them they always send out the shortfall, and more, to rectify the problem.  Just wondered if anyone else had encountered similar troubles?

Fun with Fabric / Fabric suggestion for trousers
« on: September 05, 2019, 10:50:17 AM »
I want to make up my fave TnT trousers in a black drapey fabric.

The pattern is Sew Me Something Portia which I've made in various linen/cotton mix, lightweight cotton, heavy cotton and I'd like to try something like a viscose mix for a 'softer' look, if you get what I mean  :S

I think polyester would be tricky to work with and probably wouldn't hang right. What do you suggest?

Thanks  :)

In the wardrobe / Baby jumpsuit
« on: September 01, 2019, 13:09:30 PM »
I made a jumpsuit approx age 6 months for my hairdressers' brand new baby boy. I think the fabric is so darned cute, a lucky find in my local haby shop.
