On the browse for sewing gifts, I came across this from Sewmesunshine.co.uk: A Self Measuring Tape.

My first thought was, Oh That's a good idea. Second thought was, But can't you just use an ordinary tape measure? :)
This gadget might just possibly be more accurate. It looks like fun and isn't too expensive for a gift. On the other hand do I really need it..... ;)
I might have to leave it up to Father Christmas to decide for me.

I was looking at that too Clare. My thought was how many gadgets do we really need??
-
Hmm. Isn't this just a variation on a retractable reel tape measure? I remember my mother disliking them as they stretch with use and become inaccurate.
-
@SkoutSews this looks to be a fiberglass reinforced tape rather then just a fabric one. Mine, fiberglass reinforced, not self measuring is many years old and hasn't stretched a bit. It has holes where a :meow: chewed it, but that's another matter altogether.

But can't you just use an ordinary tape measure? :)
Yep. I'm not sold. :\
-
@Renegade Sewist - that's interesting, I'll look for the fibreglass reinforced tapes in future, thanks.

I recently bought a tape with a slide-y bit that stays put at the correct length, so you don't have to try to keep your finger in the right place, cheaper, but not so much fun as this one looks 0_0

I have one of these (https://www.morplan.com/gb_en/easy-check-tape-measure?refSrc=78068&nosto=productpage-nosto-3) which does make measuring yourself a bit easier.
I don't like the idea of that sew to grow thing relies on the casing for the first 5cm/2".

@BrendaP I noticed that and thought, how can that be accurate? ><
