Title: Brother Innovis 1 - any info please....
Post by: Seweasy on May 10, 2018, 10:11:08 AM
Hello to all, its been a long time since I posted on here, I'm still dong bits and bobs sewing wise,  :o but I really need your help... -<

I've been thinking for a while now, almost 12 months, about buying a sewing and embroidery machine after seeing a friend use her V5.....and this weekend, I just missed out on getting a secondhand, almost new, V7 from a dealer for just under £2000 ...but after talking to the man on the phone, he told me he has another machine coming into his shop soon and has offered me first refusal of it, at the same price as the V7 was being offered, the machine he's offered me as an alternative is a Brother Innovis 1, sewing and embroidery machine, I was told this machine originally sold for new for around £6000...and all I know so far, (as I've not yet seen it), is that it includes four upgrades and its an all bells and whistles machine..(which is nice, but it's not really what I'm after, I'd be happy with a V5).

The problem I have and I'm hoping you can help with is....the machine I'm being offered has got such a lot of tech stuff on it, (scanning ability, camera and other techy stuff) which due to its age.... is this something that may or may not be an issue ?..... and I don't know about the stitch count on the machine, or even if it has this capability....is this something that will tell me whether the machine is on it's last legs ...?

I've not been able to find out much about this machine online, as far as reviews go.... or as to when this machine 'was new' or even if its still available. There are lots of videos showing what it can do and the features it has on it....and it has a lot  :S... which I agree makes it an impressive machine, but I'm worried about how long the techy stuff will last before I start to have problems with it... and if I'd be better off just getting a V5 from new for a little extra money....

Any suggestions would be appreciated..... :D

I have one I got it 2years ago went to buy a V5 but after looking at machines decided to pay the extra and get 1e. It very easy to use and was the top of the brother range until they bought out the Dream Machine.XV.  It has a camera function which makes it easy to line designs up. If you have all the upgrades it will have border frame as well which I haven't got.

The only problem I have had with mine is the sensor on the embroidery arm needed replacing as it wouldn't recognise the hoops. I will check my stitch count when I get home but think mi e's got about 10million stitches on it.

Thanks for the info Nuttywife59, Love the name by the way.... ;) can relate to being one myself.... :D :D Hope you dont mind me asking, but did you buy the machine new, or preloved as I will be with this one I'm interested in....and is the 1e the same machine as the NV1, or is that a bit different ?....are these machines prone to sensor problems...?

I've been told the NV1 will have service beforehand and the shop is giving a two year guarantee with it also....which does reassure me a little more....

Mine was an exdemo one. Just checked and it has 16 million stitches on it. I've only ever had 2 problems with it. I had threads breaking and it turned out I had put a Nick in bobbin case with a needle and the other was just hoop sensor.  As far as I know they don't get many problems

16 million stitches...Okay.... well now I know they're meant to do the job they are built for.... 0_0 and I'm not so inclined to be so doubtful, if the machine he has, has a similar amount on it....I'm going to give him a ring and ask if hes got it in his shop yet, so I can look at it....I'm feeling a lot more positive about it too .

You may well find it has a lot less on it. Mine was used a lot in the shop.

Im not sure what all of them are one of them was the one to upgrade hoop size from 6in x 10in to 8in by 12in, which gave you 8 x 12 and 8 x 8 hoop, Pack 2 is the colour shuffling where you can change the colours in the design and the design tablet and pen which includes 2 new alphabets and 10 new designs. Pack 3 is the border frame 300 x 100 and ten new designs and pattern conect using the camera. Pack 4 includes the multi function foot controller and led pointer. and designs for embroiderd buttonholes and 2 new alphabets.
The 1e is the newer version not sure what the difference is between the 2. I know you cant buy them new any more and I believe they are phasing out the v7. When your dealer gets it in go and have a look and get him to show you how it works.

Once again thank you NT, I've spoken to the man again this morning and he's got the machine in his shop now, he's due to give it a service this afternoon, so I'm going to view it tomorrow...he's offered me a one to one, half day training, as he did say if I'm not used to these type of machines I'll need it, just so I can get to grips with it if I decide to have it... and he's told me its four years old..... I'm actually thinking it may be too advanced for me, especially as it's my first proper 'embroidery' machine.... :S -< :| How user friendly are they...?

It may seem daunting when you see it but they are very user friendly. I also have the 1250 machine which only has 5 X 7 hoop but found my 1e a lot easier to use. It's just a case of don't be frightened of it and have a play with it. It's easy to change from sewing to embroidery and you can sew on it without taking the embroidery unit off. Join original uk machine embroidery help and advice group on Facebook, very friendly group and very helpful. They helped me a lot when I first had mine.

I hope you have as much fun with it as I have with mine. I've just got back from a demo afternoon from Caffle Crafts where my machine came from. We went through the positioning snowmen stickers and different ways you can use them using the camera. If you have any problems write them down so when you go for your training day you don't forget to ask about them.

@Nuttywife59 ...only just noticed this reply....Ive not been around on.here much due to various sewing commitments, including embroidery.... 0_0 but to answer your query, I absolutely love it....Ive used the tablet and pen to digitize a local footbal logo for a friend, it was hard work as the area on the screen of the machine, is so small, but once I got used to it...its a good tool, however following my friends advice, I have since bought PE Design 10...and oh boy, its a bit over my head...but using youtube and no doubt my friends advice, I may just get by on how to use it.... 0_0

Glad you are enjoying it. I upgraded pe design 7 to PE10 after I got my 1e must admit I haven't used it much. Your doing better with the tablet than I am all I've done is trace a dinasaur and turn it into a picture and its taken me 2 yrs to get round to doing that.
