I have been searching, honest, but I can't find the thread where we already discussed the big clips or pegs you can use to secure the quilt layers to a table top for pinning layers together.

Can anyone locate it? Or perhaps offer suggestions again?
I am sorry, but I must be forgetting a keyword, nothing coming up that looks right.

May thanks

A Good Yarn / This will be my 'lock-down jumper'
« on: May 01, 2020, 09:53:05 AM »
So since I finished my last project I've got several things lined up. The one making the most progress is a jumper for myself. A DROPS pattern (why do I do this to myself?) called Lazy Sunday Afternoon, in a dove grey wool from WYS.

Front and back are done, now I've to cast on sleeves.

***Does anyone else struggle with DROPS patterns? They aren't incorrect, just written in such a way I find them hard to follow.

I've also got a complex colourwork pair of socks on the go, but my brain just can't seem to achieve the level of concentration for them right now. And a cowl for my daughter but the yarn has some silk in it, and my hands are so dry I'm fuzzing up the yarn if I try so that might have to wait.

I'll get some photos when I can, but the pattern link is here:

Best wishes to all , keep knitting

A Good Yarn / Shawl I'm starting - with UK yarn :)
« on: February 09, 2020, 13:37:25 PM »
Have been wanting to knit a shawl called "Lithia" from Ravelry
https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/lithia-2019-rcyc-mkal

- not sure if links to other forums is allowed?

And I've found a really nice yarn suppliers in Devon called Lilypond yarns. 2 ladies, and the stuff they're dyeing is gorgeous. They have an Etsy shop and I'd recommend them if you're uk and looking for something nice.

Before I consign these to the recycling  :)

Does anyone make enough small P&Q projects that 6 foot long, 4 inch wide strips of wadding would be useful?
It's the nice all-cotton stuff, but I'm realistically not going to use them. There are 8 (or maybe 12, I'll go count . . .)

Yours for the P&P?

Let me know.

Current Projects / "Stop my quilt being stolen Mum"
« on: September 28, 2019, 08:35:06 AM »
I made a double bed sized quilt for my daughter and her partner, they were very happy with it. But now she tells me that if he gets home from work first, she's likely to find him tucked up in it on the sofa! She provided photos to prove her point LOL
So she's asked me to make him a quilt for his own - she said "red and black dinosaur mum, think Jurassic Park" - and she'd like it by xmas/his birthday - just a few days apart!

So nothing fancy then, big 6inch squares of some great dino prints and maps, with narrow red and black borders to each square, that's the plan.
And the fabrics ready to go:

Vintage Machines / Going to be rewriring a 221 - want to watch?
« on: September 28, 2019, 08:16:55 AM »
Well as the rain and cooler weather arrives, and less time is spent in the garden, the first of the winter sewing machine restorations is beginning. A 1953 black 221K, with Celtic knot pattern decals, which is in serious need of attention.

I've never tried to sew with it, having taken a look in the top and the bottom you will see what I mean, and so this is going to be where I learn 'how to'  :)

The first two shots show the heavy over greasing that's taken place at some time in the past, and the odd wire I found in the bottom (although FWS tell me this is more common that I knew). Later there will be shots and notes on having taken off the motor and the light fitting, if it goes according to plan.

Anyone who has done similar and has comments, do please feel free to speak up  :)

And anyone who wants to follow along and chat away, you're very welcome.

Current Projects / 2 quilts for gifts
« on: September 02, 2019, 13:02:41 PM »
Went for the simple squares option in the end, and have started work on the pair of quilts for my granddaughters.
Their favourite colours are apparently "pink, purple and sparkly" for the younger, and "turquoise, green and blue" for the older. I haven't used and children's prints, in the hopes the quilts will stay with them until they're grown up.
Today - my least favourite part of the process, pinning the layers together   :\  [ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

I'd be happy to pay for these of course. I'm making quilts for my 2 granddaughters and I think it would be good to have labels on them saying who they were for and so on.
I know some folks have machines that can do that kind of thing fairly easily - would anyone be prepared to make them for me?

Thanks
Leila

I have the indigo blue quilt top finished, but waiting until next month to buy the wadding. So until then I'm planning two quilts as gifts for my granddaughters.

* So two single quilts.

*They are 12 and 9 years old now.

* colours - I don't have much contact with the family (but would still like to gift them something lasting) so I don't really know what colours or patterns they would like, but I've seen photos of them with the ends of their hair dyed - one purple and one pink so incorporating using those?

* I'd like to make the same pattern twice, using the two different colourways.

* I'd like to use at least some pre-cut fabric packs, so something incorporating 5 or 10 inch squares perhaps?

Does anyone have any ideas of fairly simple but effective patterns I could make? I'm not very skilled yet, and don't go for tiny pieces  :)  or complex quilting.

Thank you to anyone who can make suggestions

Vintage Machines / Light bulbs for vintage machines
« on: August 09, 2019, 09:51:15 AM »
Thought it might be worth having a thread about replacement light bulbs for our vintage machines.
Lillian mentioned she is having trouble fitting an LED bub in her new Singer Featherweigh, and it reminded me that even among my small herd I've had to buy a couple of different types.

There is a useful video here from the Singer Featherweight shop about the kinds of bulbs avaliable

https://singer-featherweight.com/blogs/schoolhouse/featherweight-led-bulb-comparison?_pos=1&_sid=b7486e07e&_ss=r

and I did have to buy a couple of the narrowest type from them to fit my white featherweight and an electric 99K in a cabinet - all the other types fouled the narrow fitting and wouldn't engage) - I haven't yet found that narrowest type in the UK but maybe someone has?

Anyway, hope this will proves helpful to some folks

PERHAPS THIS THREAD COULD BE A STICKY _ AS A RESOURCE?

Vintage Machines / Singer 99K with knee lever
« on: August 03, 2019, 17:54:24 PM »
Bought from one of my local charity shops, untested and therefore a low price. A nice 99K dated 1935 with a knee lift. I've no idea yet whether the motor works or the knee lift mechanism is in good condition, but it will be a great winter project.

Anyone worked on one of these before?
