Oh that's so pretty, I love it! :VV:

I will never make another Bargello, disappearing nine patch, log cabin or star themed quilt again.  Bargellos require just the right aspect to be viewed otherwise they just look like a mess, and traditional quilt blocks leave me non-plussed.  And now I retire to my corner with a glass of red in hand and a grumpy frame of mind.  :\

@BrendaP Thankyou Brenda....will follow your instructions and see how we go :thumb:

Preferred methods?

I would ow ith your option rather than the one that came with the pattern except I would swap the colours around so the brown border is bordering the grey and vice versa to see how that looks perhaps?

Oh they are all so lovely...what clever clogs you all are!
I have finished the blocks for my scrappy quilt but am procrastinating in fine fashion over which method of quilting, ergo basting I want to do. The blocks are sewn together in 4s and pressed and are now languishing/sitting under my heavy laminated flat boards waiting for a decision to be made. I am hankering to do it QAYG with some fmq but am unsure whether the sashing will interfere with the pattern. I have googled QAYG without sashing as an alternative but am left lukewarm by the procedures all of which involve hand sewing  :x. I could replace the hand sewing with machine stitching but the straight lines will stand out like dogs testes against the fm pattern I want to do.  So it's a stalemate at the moment. I might play with different coloured sashing to see if that "fits in" any better.
Until then  I am no closer to starting my dragonfly wall hanging.

@Iminei, yes the pattern said finished length was 56 inch but before i trimmed it back a bit it was 74 inch. Even now it is 66 inch.

Something sure isn't right there methinks    I'd be getting grumpy as all heck!

@LeilaMay I left the original sewing forum several years ago due to hurtful comments that in no way could have been considered constructive. I had originally joined the forum to brush up on my garment sewing skills but quickly lost heart when this happened.  I'm sorry you feel the same way within this sub forum as I have found everyone to be terrific and a wealth of knowledge, support and comraderie. And I LOVE that we trounced the heck out of you all and won the ASHES

But, to your quilt concerns.....I also cringe at "random" and don't have a large stash per se.  "Random" is my nemesis but oddly enough, I have just finished piecing one and pinned it to my display wall this afternoon.  I consider it my therapy (LOL) and I am determinedly trying not to shudder each time I pass the room and look in! I'm going to quieten it down by putting it together in blocks of QAYG using a unifying fabric...a nice solid, quiet fabric...as the sashing. And when it is finished I will remind myself how brave I've been and then scurry back to my nice comfy neutral patterns and fabrics. Finish your quilt and put it over a chair in the back room......a few months down the track you'll look at it and think..."hmmmm, that's quite nice actually!"  I betcha!! <3

Patchwork & Quilting ... Welcome to the Darkside / Re: Next question
« on: February 18, 2022, 08:29:53 AM »
@Iminei LOL, my "ducks behind the sofa" slowly dwindled down to become a "ducks under the bench" (mind your head) in my sewing room before becoming  "a bag of bits near the bin".   I did mean to keep count of how many quilts I got out of it but somewhere along the way it just never happened. I agree, it is so much cheaper to buy the roll and if you have a sofa to put it behind it is well worth the outlay.

It would seem that my previous post on this thread has fallen off the edge of the world during the last hiccup experienced in 'puter world...OR....it was deliberately removed   because of my love of the term, AND use of the term......BATTING.
You lot over there can call it wadding 'till the cows come home, and you may reference to as many dictionaries as you like....but when all is said and done......WE, OVER HERE....call it batting!  Wadding indeed..pffftt to that!

....and I love 60/40 wool/poly made by an Australian company. I buy it by the roll...which reminds me...I'm out and need another one.

@Diane :

Bugger!

I contacted a pattern designer once about a discrepancy ( I thought)  in her pattern. She was lovely about it, agreed that the sentence in question was a bit vague for newbies, told me she would correct it and then gave me a free pattern of my choice from her patterns!  :thumb: Sorry you had such a bad experience.

LOL, once I threw such a tantrum over a quilt I was working on, my  language was so terribly blue (would've made a biker blush) that I was obligated to visit the next door neighbour to apologise as my window was wide open and facing one of hers! Oops :embarrassed:

@Diane , your fence just looks absolutely brilliant, your placement of the lines is way more precise than I would do! :perfect10:

These days I do all my placement of pieces using my shadow box; I sit the piece of fabric on the paper and flip it over including the imaginary 1/4' seam. If I don't use the shadow box I inevitably cut pieces just a little too small, wrong orientation or off angle.

Well i've made a bit of progress and thought i'd start with the fence part that the crow is sitting on  and why oh why did i buy fabric that has fence lines on it  :lipsrsealed: boy there was some swearing going on, i sewed the second piece on, flipped it over and the fence was 90 degrees out  :headbang: I unpicked it about five times and it took a lot of patience to get it to what i call acceptable.

Oh my goodness......this is like reading about myself with each project I do! It's definately a love/hate relationship LOL.      BTW, I LOVE your fence fabric!
