Embroidery and Embellishment / Re: Metallic thread
« on: July 04, 2020, 19:05:04 PM »
Use a 'metallic' needle, it has a bigger eye to avoid rubbing through the thread. Reduce the tension a bit. My machine likes the Madeira thread but I also have a cheap multipack of metallic threads, some colours work fine, others kept snapping so I chucked them.

Technical Help / Re: Bias tape question
« on: June 01, 2020, 07:54:44 AM »
Bought tape has one fold wider than the other so that when sewn on in one pass using a binder, both sides are stitched down. The wider fold would go on the underside when binding.

Well I've just squeaked in under the wire! This fabric was in my mum's stash, a fine cotton lawn. Pink yoke fabric is the last scraps from ages ago. The pattern is a trusty Prima one which I've used as the base for many tops. This time I closed the bust dart, rotating it to the shoulder which gave me extra fabric to gather onto the front yoke. I created the yoke, sewing it all together using the burrito method, quick & easy.   [ You are not allowed to view attachments ]  It's a loose fit, goes easily over my head so the front is stiched across the facings, buttons are for show, (no buttonholes yay)! It fits fine but I don't like it.   [ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

@Tamnymore that cotton jersey looks nice, is it drapey? There's a different design in that section which I like for a twist front dress so it needs to be thin fabric. I was thinking viscose jersey.

Welcome.  Your sheet metalworking skills transfer well to fabric, except that steel has no selvedge and doesn't fray.

Welcome. I hope you're able to find a good s/h machine, sometimes people advertise them on here and, being such nice people, we're unlikely to fleece you. In the meantime, is there someone You know who has a machine sitting unused, who might lend it to you?

In the wardrobe / Re: Help needed

Sew the facing on right sides facing, clip to V, press to inside. Preferably understitch the facing (if this isn't explained in the instructions Google it).
