Patterns Discussion / Has anyone tried Spencer Ogg patterns
« on: March 18, 2024, 09:14:05 AM »
I am looking to make a small wallet that will take a few credit cards and my massive car key, I want it as small as possible.

I am looking at this one https://www.spencerogg.com/product/starlight-wallet/

Just wondered if anyone had tried any of her patterns, if so are the instructions good? I am a novice when it comes to bags.

In the wardrobe / Men’s pyjamas
« on: February 25, 2024, 09:30:13 AM »
I am looking to make a pyjama top for my Son, he think he wants a brushed cotton but he doesn’t want buttons, I am a bit unsure what sort of pattern to use, most of the ones without buttons are for stretch fabric.

Does anyone have any ideas

Can I use a tee shirt pattern but just bigger or will it be uncomfortable, he does want long sleeves

Sewing Machines / Celia’s new machine
« on: February 24, 2024, 13:59:30 PM »
Here she is unpacked and ready to go, one day when I have tidied a bit I will show you my tiny sewing room.

At the moment she sits opposite the HD9 and she is small enough for me to move out of the way when I want to use the table for cutting small items etc.

I decided in the end to go with the small Bernina as I loved my old one so much and only let it go when I bought the 570,  luckily enough I still have extra feet and the fancy foot control for it. I do need to buy some more bobbin though as I completely forgot I would need them.

Off to play with it now

Sewing Machines / Smallish good sewing machines ideas
« on: February 20, 2024, 12:47:36 PM »
I am looking to buy a smallish but good sewing machine

I love my Janome HD9 but it is straight stitch only and is definitely not portable. As I have sold my lovely Bernina 570 to @Bill I have a gap and also some money.

Do any of you have machines that you love and can suggest, I am happy with a normal sized machine but not too heavy.
I think I would look at a Janome but am worried about the differences in the models, I know some of the cheap ones are not good and I’m not sure when they get better.
I love the small Bernina 3 series  but they are expensive for what you get.

Suggestions please

Sewing Machines / Update on my sewing machine world. LATEST
« on: January 05, 2024, 12:04:57 PM »
A lot of you will know I have not been sewing much for a good while, well just before Christmas I did a few little things and have continued this year.

My big change was I put my big expensive Bernina machine away in a cupboard with a theoretical lock on it.

I allowed myself to use my Janome HD9 straight stitch only machine, it’s made all the difference, when I needed a zigzag I used my Overlocker and this week I used my Husqvarna topaz for embroidery.

I think for now I am going to continue to not even think about the Bernina 570, thinking about it has a definitely negative effect on my sewing journey.

I will review the situation on a month or two.

I can’t believe the difference when I couldn’t see the Bernina……

I am also enjoying making things that don’t really matter, simple bags and a pencil case as examples

I have just seen this and thought some might be interested

I bought this last year and was amazed by the quality the only problem I had was it was a bit too thick for what I wanted.

Well I decided to try to sell my brand new, well used about twice Bernini 570 and what have they done but reduced the price by £500  and

What do I ask for it what does anyone think is is reasonable.

I understand I will loose a lot but I don’t want to silly or unreasonable.

A Good Yarn / My new toy
« on: September 06, 2023, 08:54:41 AM »
I had a lovely time yesterday playing with my new Zoom loom, https://www.weftblown.com/products/schacht-zoom-loom it was a present to me with some birthday money.

It is quite the opposite to @Ploshkin new loom  (which by the way I saw at the Southern wool show on Sunday really tempting but I have no space).

The first square I did has a mistake in it but I am not undoing it, my aim is to make a patchwork throw, I saw one someone had made and it was gorgeous, I will see how I go but the first thing might just be a cushion.

Has anyone else ever tried a pin loom.

Sewing Machines / Yet another rethink about machines
« on: August 29, 2023, 09:11:15 AM »
Some of you might have seen I have advertised my embroidery machine Topaz 40 and guess what?  My friend’s granddaughter is having a baby and has asked for some embroidered items

She is a lovely girl who helped me a lot when I lost “him in doors”

I have now decided I need to keep this machine, it owes me nothing as I have had it a while and needed it for my work when I was working so I don’t mind.

BUT do I then decide to sell the elephant in the room …… I bought an all singing all dancing Bernina when I was feeling rather down and it was probably a mistake.

Does anyone else have a machine they sort of keep for best and then don’t use? Or is it just me?

I now know I will not get around to machine embroidery again, I spend too much time knitting, weaving, spinning and hand embroidery so I would love it to go to a good home.

It is in immaculate condition and has recently been serviced.

If anyone is interested I am advertising it on here first at a lower price, as I really would love it to go to a good home.

Here is a link to it full details https://www.franknutt.co.uk/husqvarna-viking-designer-topaz-40

I haven’t photographed the embroidery unit and all the extras but please ask if you want anymore info.

I will let it go for £995 to a good home only   :loveit:  I would rather it was collected or I could deliver if in a reasonable distance.

A Good Yarn / Bit more weaving
« on: April 09, 2023, 15:05:10 PM »
Here is my latest Inkle weave, it is only a test piece but the white yarn was horrible to warp with, the next one will not be done with this, it is Drops 50%cotton and 50% viscose really slippy and jumps out of your hands.

Eventually it will be used in bag making.

A Good Yarn / Possible Next new jumper
« on: March 31, 2023, 13:47:55 PM »
This is the next jumper I am thinking of knitting, https://www.garnstudio.com/pattern.php?id=8768&cid=19  just wondering if I am taking on more than I should but I have enjoyed knitting the last one even if it did take forever and got knitted twice.

I am thinking of doing the browny coloured one or something similar
