In all of my stash - which is extensive!! - I can't call to mind any foliage fabric  :headbang:
I will have a good old rootle but if not ....Ahh, lightbulb moment, I think I have just recalled some. Watch this space for searching success.

I know I have nothing like this. I reckon you have to be careful with prints past certain age - they can be ageing but did see something somewhere - now where was it and did I keep the page.........

:D That bistro table cloth and napkins I cut out of a grape leaves and grapes print might get it's day in the sunshine after all. Mmmm..., been in the cupboard 6 or 7 years?

I was surprised that of the half dozen floral prints I have only one has what I would call foliage.

Efemera’s entry

The pattern is In The Sun Dress by Dress your Body.
I used the narrow hem foot to hem the flounce and the gathering foot for the gathers.
I added side pockets and a false hem to get the maximum length.(http://)

Well, I've rootled and delved and have come up almost empty handed. The one I thought of using is much more floral than foliage and the other is a remnant more suited to bag making and I don't want another bag at the moment so it looks like I won't be joining in this one. Neither inspired me much which is the main reason for passing.
Nevermind, I'll cheer you all on from the side lines.

I happen to have just such a fabric in my stash and an appropriate dress pattern on the way, so I may throw my hat into the ring for this one. The dress is uncomplicated, but the fabric is busy, so I'm hoping that they work out well together.
Photos to follow.

My patterns arrived today, including the one I have earmarked my foliage fabric for.  The fabric is a lovely smooth cotton poplin (already laundered, of course!) and just the thing for the Itch to Stitch Recoleta dress. I will prep the pattern over the weekend and check for fit - I haven't used this brand before, so I need to find a bit of patience before putting scissors to cloth. Hopefully it won't be too long.

As a side note, the Itch to Stitch patterns have a fabulous range of sizes and cup sizes. This one, the Recoleta dress, goes from their size 00 to 20 (for example, their size 12 is waist 35" and hip 42 3/4", with bust of 39 3/4" for the A cup up to 43 3/4" for the DD option. I will measure the pattern pieces to see how true they are to the finished garment sizes, but it's nice to see such a good range included as standard.

Here's a pic of my fabric: green and beige foliage on a dark navy background.

I was thinking of making the long sleeved version of the Itch to Stitch Seychelles top. I have an issue with a sewing machine that needs addressing so we shall see. I had to try out various sizes and cup sizes before settling on the best fitting. I have my standard alterations that I require no matter what pattern I use, but at least I didn’t have to faff around with an FBA. I have other ITS patterns and it’ll be handy to know what size to cut. The Recoleta is pretty popular. Love your leaf print.

I have had this viscose in my stash for years. Not sure there is enough though.

That's pretty, @Puzzler . How much do you have and what width? I'm cutting the short sleeved version at the moment and I reckon you could get away with 1.5m of a decent width, depending on which size you need and how tall you are. There's also opportunity for skimping by using a contrast for the front inset and back neck facing.
I must also confess to having changed my fabric choice at the last moment. I'm using a floral poplin (it has a few leaves!), but I changed my mind because I think the leaf print (which is actually cotton lawn) will look nicer in the Chai dress. That will be along shortly, too!

@dolcevita she has a couple of free sewing patterns on her site if you want to try them out.  I made her long sleeved top but should have chopped more off the bottom !  And the neck was too wide for me.  But she has some nice styles.

I've had a rummage through the stash and found about 1.5m of this poly crepe.  Plenty big enough to cut a blouse from.  I'm using McCalls 6035 which I have made before and I've cut the version with ruching and ties on the sleeves

Hi all,

Here is my entry:
Your User Name and Entry Number: cakeymcdoodle #1

What is it and for whom
A Paper Theory Zadie jumpsuit made with ex-Dolce & Gabbana banana leaf poplin, for me!

The instructions were great and the notches etc matched up perfectly. The wrap part very much keeps everything covered and the pockets are very deep. The jumpsuit is very comfy and I am likely to wear it a lot throughout the Summer.

The only style alteration was to shorten the legs due to fabric restrictions. Fit wise, I lengthened the bodice by 2cm and did a swayback with the trouser part only. These are normal adjustments for me. I made another with shorter cuffed shorts from orange linen (it's on Instagram, same handle if you'd like to look) and would definitely make another, and possibly a wrap cardigan just using the top part.

Brenda P's entry.

What is it and for whom

A shirt for myself.

A short description on how you made it, any problems overcome etc.

A princess seamed shirt which I have made before with various sleeve options.  This one has the ruched sleeves and a collar with stand.  All the body seams are mock felled; overlocked and then stitched down.  No particular problems except that when I tried it on as 'finished' one of the buttonholes hadn't been cut!

The fabric is a lightweight stable knit from stash, and just enough left over to make a decent size gift-wrap bag and the obligatory must-have fashion accessory.

I'm getting there, honestly I am! It's just that I keep getting distracted along the way and I've found that the design I had planned for my fabric (Itch to Stitch chai dress) is unlikely to get an outing as I made the blouse version and hate it!!! Still, better to find out now than commit my foliage fabric to a certain death.

Might just get under the wire -again.  I am trying a doll's shirt with proper two piece collar and cuffs.  I wanted to see how accurate I could be. My tablet won't email me my pictures any more, they just sit in the outbox.  I still have to do the fastenings.  Might borrow something to get the pictures later.

Is this my very last day and then needles down?  :scream: I feel like a GBSB contestant! I still have to finish cuffs with fabric button loop, insert sleeves and hem. I’ve given warning to Esmeralda that she’ll be required to model my top. She won’t fill out the bust as well I, but she’ll have to do.

Puzzler’s entry - Itch to Stitch Seychelles top.

I made this for myself.

Description: Fabric was purchased in London years ago. It’s a rayon challis so a brushed texture. This plus the colour made it more suitable for a cooler weather garment so I made the long sleeve version. The fabric was difficult to work with and frayed like mad. I hand-basted practically everything. I used my Singer Featherweight and overlocker. I had to size down as there is a lot of ease but still plenty for me without it looking like a tent. I have been searching for ages for such a pattern and tried to draft my own on occasion, but all attempts went bin-ways. Doesn’t look like much in the photo and unfortunately the colour is distorted but I am thrilled. The pattern will be used again for sure. In fact this is the second Seychelles I have sewn. I made the short sleeve version a couple of weeks ago.

Helen M’s entry

A dress for myself

Montana midi dress by Style Arc. Fabric is viscose with a dark navy background that has been in my stash at least 2 years. I only had 1.5 metres and it frayed like mad!

A pull on dress with gathers to skirt from a high waist. I omitted the pockets and chose the single ply bodice option due to fabric shortage. There is a neck facing pattern piece but I didn’t like the way it sat so I made my own bias binding from scraps of fabric, miraculously I didn’t need to join it!

The bodice was very wide where skirt joins, and even after taking in from armhole down I felt it to be a bit loose so I attached 6mm elastic to the inside. It is not tight even with the elastic but a nice shape IMHO.

Other alterations were my usual square shoulder adjustment and I shortened the skirt length by 2 inches.

Meh, I failed miserably to meet the deadline. Hated the chai dress pattern, found out that my other patterns were incomplete and then spent the weekend and BH entertaining visitors! No need to worry, though, lots of lovely entries to vote for! :D

Toileandtrouble's Entry

A button up shirt for my Our Generation doll, April.
[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]
The pattern is a download from Liberty Jane at Pixie Faire.  The picture shows the front with a yoke, but in the end I decided on the full front and just a back yoke.  The cotton I chose because of the scale of the design.  I have included my little quilting roller.  It makes a good crease on a single layer of cotton, which saved my going up and down a floor to use the iron.
First problem I met was the fitting. The pattern is design for American Girl dolls, with a narrower waist than the OG doll. They also have a slightly wider shoulder but that didn't matter as much.  Had to cut out my main pieces again, tapering them out 1/4" at the waist, to add 1" in total.
The seam allowances are 1/4" so the little cuff pieces disappeared under the machine foot.  Very fiddly and next time I will make the allowances wider so as to have something to hold on to, then trim them back.
This is the result, showing the two pieces collar and opening cuffs.
[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]
I briefly toyed with the idea of sewing real tiny buttonholes but decided against it.  There are transparent plastic press studs sewn behind each of the 4mm buttons.  The green is not the right one, but you don't get much choice of colour in 4mm buttons and white just seemed too dull.
The finished shirt:
[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]
Now she has a skirt, she can model the finished shirt.
[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

The skirt was made from the offcuts from shortening a pair of trousers.  The material look heavier on a doll.

That is so cute @toileandtrouble. At least with doll clothes you never have to worry about stuff like FBAs.

Post by: toileandtrouble on June 03, 2021, 10:05:34 AM
@Puzzler She doesn't need an FBA but I was misled by the size of the front and back pieces!  The fronts didn't cover the back completely, never mind overlap.  However, it is a perfect fit on April - she has no skirt yet or she could model it.  Dolls have a much wider back, must be because they are usually lying down and the arms face forwards.  Must remember that if I make my own pattern.
