Title: Alternative to mitred square blanket
Post by: Pearl on May 02, 2021, 14:25:07 PM
I previously made a mitred square blanket for DD and am toying with the idea of knitting another.  DD’s is random and I’d like to make one that is less so.  I wondered if anyone knew of something that is similar.  Would love it if it looked like a quilt pattern.  I’ve seen one that looks like a shadow quilt and another that looks like a half log cabin.  TIA

A quick look at Ravelry came up with

Work the squares half one colour and half another and you would get essentially two HST joined together.  @Iminei is the queen of making a quit using only HSTs.

I wish I could knit properly or crochet.
I knit like a 7 yr old and can't get the hang of crocheting at all

That looks like a nice one to make @LeilaMay. I've got a partially made mitred blanket on the go. I use left over DK wool from other projects and add to it as I go. It's satisfying and fun to do :)

I am making a scrappy Ten Stitch Square blanket which is a free pattern. I have seen some gorgeous organized looking blankets that use alternating scrap/color round with rounds of a solid, like white. You start in the center and work out, and instead of working out to the very edge of the blanket you could make several of these in a smaller size like a block to get that "repeating quilt block" look. That designer has some great variations on miters and the ten stitch blanket idea.
