One of my favourite blocks, I have some cushions I made using it :) I didn't make it like that though  -<
Is starch something helpful to have....I've never used it?

Logically, you'd think that cutting the squares to half size would make the block half size as well, wouldn't you? :[
The trimmed small HST's measured 3 inches though and needed to be 3 1/2 inches to make a 12 inch block. I've had a little experiment and if you cut the squares 6 inches rather than 5, the HST's come out at something like 3 3/4 so can be trimmed to 3 1/2. Just saying. I'll be doing the block proper tomorrow.  :)

Lovely block by the way Imi.

The theory is that if you cut a square in half diagonally to make two HSTs and then sew them back together again with accurate 1/4" seam allowances the resulting square will be 7/8" smaller on each side than the original.

If you cut a square on both diagonals to make four QSTs and sew them back together, again with accurate 1/4" seam allowances the resulting square will be 1¼" smaller than the original.

I've done two again.

I don't know if I'll manage to do this on all of them, but I quite like the idea of making a smaller version....I'll see how it goes. It obviously will depend on how complicated they are, and how to figure out the cutting sizes.

This one has turned out as a 10 1/2" block.

And....my second one....

My daughter loves the colours in this one.  :)

The finished size of this is 5 1/2"....I began with 3 1/4" squares, and then cut the HST's down to 1 3/4"

I just knew we had a masochist out there!!!!

Bravo Sandra, Bravo ...  I think the aubergine one is particularly striking!!!

I may add those measurements to the tut for the clinically insane
Errrmm ...  Anyone who fancies making the Teeny Star!

Now run along into the BOM HOF and put the kettle on for your fellow Darksiders, they'll be along soon (I hope!)

Here's mine. I cut the squares 6 inches and trimmed the HST's down to 3 1/2. A bit wasteful but it ended up at 12 1/2 inches, which is what I wanted.

I've managed a BOM while waiting for some thread to arrive for topstitching my jacket.
Here it is.
It never ceases to amaze me how many different sizes of square I can manage to cut that are all supposed to be the same (and, if I say so myself, I am quite a precise cutter)

In the realm of precision sewing this is not my finest hour! It's  :trousers: isn't it.
But it's small, and I had fun   0_0

All the blocks are lovely - they're unique as everyone's interpretation is slightly different. As long as we enjoy making them, that's what it's all about.  <3

Here are my contributions.  One large that will become a cushion and a small that has a small cut across one of the blocks that I didn’t notice until I was pressing it.

I have to make maximum use of having the machine and cutting board out. Tonight the table returns to dining and gaming. No more sewing till the back end of next week probably.

Really getting into it. Not done any squaring up before.
