Please don't look too closely; some of the background fabric is the wrong side up.

Wow, that was quick.

Here’s my block. I knew I would be annoyed by the “uneven weave” effect so I modified it to give an “over and under” weave. I then had to use some partial seams as I knew that putting extra seams in the central strip would probably annoy me more than the weave effect. (I’m not normally this fussy about blocks.)

@StitchinTime  It's not just you - my head can't cope with partial weave either.  Ages ago I was trying to work out how to do a weave most efficiently but gave up.  I'll have another go.

Well Done Girls ....

You were both Quick out of the blocks!

Lovely Fresh Fabrics Pearl
and Subtle Spicy overtones on yours SIT

Would you like to post an alternative weave method addendum to May's BOM tut ???

Run along now both of you, into the BOM HOF with you ...

@StitchinTime  It's not just you - my head can't cope with partial weave either.

Mine neither.  I almost threw it away at the last moment because I thought I'd gone wrong.

That addendum would be great, if you could, @StitchinTime .

It is not so much of an addendum, more a completely different way of cutting and piecing the block. I tried to work out a way of subcutting larger pieces but couldn't get that to work and went back to basics.

I will put something together over the next few days as to how I did my block, but I am sure there are other ways to do this. If anyone else fancies working this out too, it would be nice to have a choice of methods.

My brain keeps telling me to cut the strips, weave them fully and then applique the whole thing to the background...    :|

Got mine done today.  I too would ideally prefer that the block wove better but I like how quick and straightforward this one is.

I've written a set of instructions for an "even weave" block which make perfect sense to me, but maybe only me!

Before I make them available to everyone, would anyone volunteer to read through them to see if they can follow them too? I'll send you a link to a pdf file to download from Google Drives and once the file is finalised, I will see if it can be added as an attachment.

Sorry for the delay. A friend came round for drinks -

I I think the two different blues on the vertical were due to my printer toner being low and printing out different shades, so user error.

It was a clear and quick set of instructions. Well done.

Verrrrrry nice Fajita!

But errrmmmm ... Are the two horizontal strips meant to change halfway across?
Or were they sewn post drinkies????

So if someone would like to make a tut ..... Fajita?? Stitchintime??

@Iminei I’ve written up the method I used to get the even weave effect and @Fajita kindly offered to test it for me.

There are a few tweaks to make to the illustrations and then it will be ready to share with everyone.

Here's the link to the way I made my "even weave" version of May's block.
TSP_BOM_May_Alternative (https://drive.google.com/file/d/106sM0lQCWHsE8T9xpzRGlSoZBpY5i9PU/view?usp=sharing)

It is a PDF file and has been uploaded to Google Drives - if anyone has problems accessing it, just send me a message with your email and I will send the file to you as, unfortunately, attachments can't be sent in messages.

Thank you @StitchinTime  for going to the trouble of doing such a smart looking tutorial.  8)  I don't know how you do it.

I must admit, after seeing your 'properly' woven version, the original didn't look right any more...with apologies to @Iminei  No criticism intended of your beautiful work and much appreciated tutorials.  :*

I just need to decide on colours.

Sandra.

Actually much as the non woven weave jars my brain, it really doesn't matter in the lovely quilt that Iminei has made with the blocks, either because each block uses a different colour or because they are separated and the woven effect isn't across the whole quilt

Another try at the even weave, this time using the correct colours.

My first attempt at a BOM!
I didn't read it properly and only sorted out 3 colours of strips. I like the result.
Thanks for all the hard work on the tutorials.
Now to see if I can get another done before school pick up time, we are off out to visit friends so for once I don't have to tidy up and return this room to a kitchen diner from sewing room state.

Oh, that's lovely. It's worked really well with just the three colours.

And @Iminei s uneven block. Nice easy construction.

@Bogwoppit I do like your original block in just three colours. The uneven weave is not as noticeable when fewer colours are used.

I might have to try the original block now, but then I’d end up 13 blocks at the end of the year.

I'm trying to decipher what it is that makes some less "head melty" than others and I think it's the ones with lower contrast. Maybe.  -<

I've done both versions this afternoon.  8)

This is a lovely block. It's quite satisfying how quickly it all comes together.

Very pleasing to see it properly woven, but it's a bit of a faff to cut and put it all together. Hat's off to StitchinTime   :toast:  for working all that out and giving us her tutorial.

I'm sure everyone wants you to make the most of your holiday @Iminei - I haven't even started May's BOM yet (or any other month's either  :S) but am looking forward to tackling it soon. :) You've already gone above and beyond the call of duty by posting it from the depths of your holiday caravan so you have brownie points accrued already. <3

@Bogwoppit - I tried @Iminei 's excellent tutorial on foundation paper piecing as I'd never done it before, and now - guess what? I'm totally hooked. I love it. <3

Have a go - I'm sure you'll enjoy it. :)

It does sound fun. Seen some minion designs that would be perfect Christmas presents if I get the hang of it.

Might be a while before life allows me to play quilting again. Boys need new shorts (including the grown up one) and I have some lawn waiting to make a blouse for me.
