Title: Novembers BOM - Ship Block
Post by: Iminei on November 01, 2018, 11:01:04 AM
Winter is truly drawing in now and my mind is pulling me back to the wonderful holiday I had last November sailing around the Gibraltar Straits in balmy sunshine so I decided to quilt myself back there..

I hope you will join me in this fun block by Helen Howes (http://www.helenhowestextiles.co.uk/), whose designs I just love!

Ooh that’s a lovely block, think would work with actual nautical themed fabrics or think that would hide the sea, sky and sail impact you get from the colours you used?  I have lots of nautical themed fabrics for making a baby quilt but my original plan I have decided is too complicated for me at the moment.  I’m annoyed I never managed to fit in sewing October’s block while still correct month.

I seem to have got stuck in March.  I love those little houses.

Since I began to work full time, I don't have enough time to sew.   :(

I'll be trying it.  :)

It's just that I've got a bit of a half-arsed attitude at the moment, and can't be bothered with anything other than than the alteration stuff I HAVE to do.

I did one today (that you've spotted) and the tiger one is ready to go - when I have enough courage to cut curvy lines.

Just seen your July one, very nice!
You do know you are going to start having to share credit if your boys get any more hands on ???

Dont be scared of the curves BW ...

The June block and this months are such gentle curves they sew so easily ...
Sew slowly from the bottom of the block every time, focusing an inch or two in front of the foot, bring the raw edges together ... You will very pleased at how simply they come together .. honest!

And Octobers block works by using the bias edges ... simple bimple !

I’m feeling miserable bout lack of sewing!

Going to tell my husband he isn’t allowed to do anything at all other than puppy supervising a couple of nights this week and on Sunday and see if I can get some done.

I still need to finish making my sister some cushion covers using the BOM weave block, think started them early August.

@Acorn I have every intention of finishing all of the BOMs but life (or rather a death) has got in the way and my sewing machine is blocked in with boxes of stuff and memories after having to clear a house. I think I am only two boxes away from being able to get back to sewing again.

Get the kettle on, Acorn...I'll be joining you soon.  :)

I've finally caught up with the Nov BOM. The white fabric's a very nice, Egyptian cotton, but it's too thin for this. It's all I have for now so it's going to have to do.
I'm pleased with my background fabrics and now I want to go to the seaside. Can't remember the last time I saw the sea.  :[
(Daughter saw the background fabrics and said she thought...."Oh, no. She's not doing another applique is she?...this time by the sea".  0_0 )

Wonderful Mali, wonderful

Hopefully I'll be posting the finished quilt of this block before the end of the year, which just needs a teeny addition of 3 scraps of fabric to make lots of sense ...

Anyhow, sail over to the BOMHOF and see if anyone's still there .....

I think your binding fabric might be 'Butterfly Carnival' by Fabric Freedom?

I've got the blue/green version in a FQ pack, but it's missing the make off the selvedge on this particular fabric.
Can't seem to find any online though...is it no longer available?

Well I sewed the 2 1/2 FQs together and cut quite a lot of 3" strips and now have a lorra lorra binding ... hopefully there will be enough for another cot quilt as I do love it ... pic shows the bonus FQs a beautiful Lime green Ombre (do not adjust your monitors that's what its like) and a Lime with dragonfly motif ... gorgeous!

Well I've plenty of binding left for another project and Im now waiting for the sewn binding to get used to its new position in life using my Christmas present of Binding clips from @Kwaaked, thank you once again!

Im not entirely sure Ive used them correctly and hope they will behave when I get round to sewing the binding down, but there certainly were enough. The tin says there were 100 and I've still got a goodly few in the tin.
