For Sale, Wanted & Free to a good home / Bernette B77 SOLD
« on: February 13, 2024, 16:56:09 PM »
As you all know, I've upgraded. So Burt needs a new home.
You'll also know that Burt is the first machine I've owned that hasn't tried every last one of my nerves. It really is that good. It's been really well looked after an apart from the buttonhole foot which be finicky on some fabrics, does everything well. The only thing wrong, is that one of the two small spool covers flew off one day and hasn't been seen since.
Burt was brand spanking new last June so isn't even all that old.
I'm asking £300 ish. It's in the box now and ready to go.
UPS will charge about @£15 for delivery but if you choose insurance the price rockets to about £60  :faints:
Up to you.

Sewing Machines / Bills New Machine
« on: February 13, 2024, 13:33:11 PM »
I can hear you all now. "Oh god he's at it again!"
Pics later I promise.
Today I have put the second (hopefully last) coat of paint in my new sewing corner. The rest of the living room will follow shortly but I wanted this area done first. Why not! Calamities today include losing my balance and ploughing head first into the newly painted wall. Luckily no one else saw it, or my face.
Just waiting for the paint to dry and then I'll get Bernie into her new place. Sorry @Ouryve , I've pinched your berninas name for mine too  :D
I'll have to find some sewing inspired pictures for the wall as it's a wee bit boring looking.

Tech Know How / Too Good to Lose section
« on: December 08, 2023, 13:15:33 PM »
Reading @dafyddcoch s query on shirt sleeve shortening and @Sandra s tutorial previously buried on it, got me thinking.
On one of the cycling forums, they have a stickied section on previously posted hints and general help on matters regarding repairs etc.
Is that something we could do here? Maybe a list of links with a title describing what each relates to?
I'm sure members past and present have posted instructions on how to do nips, tucks, hems etc but finding them using the search function as we all know is very hit and miss at the best of times.

edit: never mind...it's been done...the tutorials section. DOH!

Clearly I need stronger meds

I saw this & I thought you may be interested! / A Real Toy Singer
« on: October 11, 2023, 23:52:05 PM »
I'd love to have this for the novelty but I'm not rich unfortunately.
One of you might be though and possibly rescue it before an idiot gets it.

Vintage Machines / Guess what I have part II
« on: September 17, 2023, 08:50:59 AM »
I couldn't help it.
There I was, innocently browsing the tinterweb for a vintage singer zig zag stitch foot when out of the blue I saw links to 201k machines. Sales. Videos. Pics. Forum articles. Restoration hints etc. This happens alot as many of you undoubtedly discover from time to time.
Then it caught my eye. A lovely 1937 treadle powered 201k in a cabinet with a motor already fitted. It was half the original selling price. It wasn't on auction so no fear of some rich sod outbidding me. Not quite immaculate, but definitely in very good condition.
Arrived at the owners house to a warm welcome and had a play with it. Running smooth as melted butter.
There's a wee bit of dust in the usual places and some sticky stuff on the arm (old sellotape probably) and parts of the decals wearing through but that's about the extent of the damage besides the usual scratches on the cabinet. But luckily no one's tried to half arse a bodge at covering it in B&Q bargain varnish.
Oooooh I can't wait to get sorting it out today!

Vintage Machines / Guess What I Have?

A treadle 201k! As far as I can make out, 1935.

She needs a bit of a polish and I've not sewn anything as yet, but I have had her running and she runs beautifully.
The cabinet also in need of a spruce is in near perfect condition. There's a lovely smell of old wood in the drawers  :D
I'll be spending a few days very carefully cleaning it all up and then I'll try some stitching on it. As you can see, it's all in pretty damn good condition.
I can't say it enough, to the TSP member who passed it and another oldish singer onto me, thankyou from the bottom of my heart. You're a diamond  :)
Can't wait!

Access All Accessories / Spencer Ogg Worsley Wallet
« on: February 11, 2023, 15:18:06 PM »
Afternoon people's. Finished this today. Pam's Valentines prezzy.
My first attempt ended up being too thick for the machine to sew through. I used pink real fake leather as the cover. Ah well.
Pam loves butterfly's (butterflies?) and her mum (passed away before I met her) loved yellow roses so I figured I'd try combine the two.
It worked! I think. I'm happy with the finished purse though.
It only broke 2 needles!

Sewing Machines / Skipping Stitch problem
« on: December 26, 2022, 17:49:20 PM »
I've done everything by the book. New needle. Thicker & thinner needles.Thread tension. Foot pressure. Given it a good clean. Etc etc and it continues to plague me.
This happens when the machine is stitching across increasingly thick layers of fabric and the foot is on a slight angle due to edge stitching.
So, I'm curious if my needle bar is set at the correct height. I did tweak it the other day for the same skipping stitch issue.
If anyone has a Janome Atelier 7 ( @Iminei ?) would you be so kind as to take a pic like mine and show me where yours rests just as the hook passes the needle please? I can then set mine the same and see if the problem persists.
Fankoo.

Access All Accessories / The Wallet.
« on: April 17, 2022, 21:36:41 PM »
It's taken over a year for me to learn how to do this and that and went through various designs and fabrics but it is finally done.
It's basically some heavy-ish weight cotton for the innards and binding and a random square of tweed from a dozen sent to me and lots of interfacing. 3 attempts on this version alone.
It's a bit wider and thicker than I'd like but it'll do the job...if I can get it into my pockets...

Access All Accessories / My first tool roll
« on: April 13, 2022, 11:20:59 AM »
It only houses the one tool, my hole punch and its various bits, it's a wee bit loose and not as well finished as I'd have liked but it's done. After lots of head scratching and 2-3 previous attempts. And I knackered up a needle coz someone thought he could get away with sewing over a pin

Technical Help / Instructions differ from the plan
« on: April 02, 2022, 21:03:50 PM »
I need your help folks as this one is setting off my depression big time.
There are no short broken lines on the plan that match the instructions. I'm following the black ink on the plan as the text indicates that to be the correct one. Help!

Sewing Machines / I've Kidnapped the Splurgesses Sister!
« on: March 02, 2022, 22:25:08 PM »
Unfortunately the embroidery machine didn't fetch anywhere near as much as I had hoped but both sales have left me with just enough (£1266) to cover the cost of either the ex demo Janome Atelier 7 currently on sale at couling sewing machines or the bernette b77 on sale elsewhere for the smae price. Although there is one on amazon going for a grand.
Both machines have the same specs more or less except for stitch count where the b77 wins.
That also comes with an extension table and will be brand spanking new.
The atelier is the one I've wanted for quite a while but, no extension table. No guarantee it'll still be there when the money clears (mon-tue) and its pretty much second hand. It does have a bobbin plate that unlocks with the press of a button.

What say ye experts of TSP?
