Fabricland in Bristol has lots of lycra in bright colours- there are theatres here. It is part of a chain that sella online - check there for their prices.

Fun with Fabric / Re: Dye help please
« on: March 17, 2019, 17:02:14 PM »
Well, as the wind and rain eased off for a bit today, I tried bleach, then rinse, then strong tea. It's not so mustardy now tht it's dry, so I think I will hang it outside when the sun is stronger later in the season.
PS- modified to clarify- sun bleaching hopefully will fade the colour.
(I have found sun effective on tomato stains).

Thanks everyone, I will ponder on the suggestions before rushing in as usual. I did a lot of dyeing in the past, with variable results. Never managed to get an article completely streak free. Oh, I tell a lie, I managed a really spectacular purple bra!

True, but in my case, only if you want people to ask if I am feeling ill

I used Koala Bear Cold Dye on an oatmeal coloured cotton/linen, and it went a yellowish mustard colour. I hoped it would be more like coffee. Any ideas to dull the yellow tinge without buying another dye?

I think you did a pretty good job with this pattern, but it is disappointing when the fabric lets you down. Although it looks a little floppy, maybe an underslip would help?

Scraps - I use them to stuff draught excluders (like long sausages) to sit snugly behind my outside doors. I also add cut up worn out clothing.

Ruthie, did you get the Burda shaped bottom from the pile of mags I gave you a while back? If you want rid of thePrima patterns, just send them down

Hi, do you get (Australian) Stitches magazine? If so, would you recommend a subscription?

The 2/19 womens clothing magazine is up on their website. Fairly basic stuff, tops still swinging out towards the hip. I can usually find the magazine in Bristol at Temple Meads station.

To sharpen, I have successfully cut through three layers of kitchen foil.

Advice on trollers like this is to ignore them. Any attention only encourages them.

To get a pinking edge on fabric, I use a rotary cutter, with a wavy blade.
(To sharpen my blades, I run them manually thro approx four layers of aluminium foil).
Hope this helps.

Manuela is also good value at shopping- we went through Harvey Nicks like a dose of salts- honestly, mostly the fabric and finish of womens' clothing was worse than Primark. (Not to mention the more is more philosophy- ie, how about adding a fringe to that multicolour dress? Ok, and some pompoms) We found a plain grey cashmere coat perfectly made, and tried to persuade the young assistant to buy it NOW with her staff discount.
Then to Fabricland- I got a crash course in fabric for hot places- she bought a dress length of pink flowery polycotton sprinkled with raindrops, went home and sewed a sheath dress.
(We have totally different wardrobing ideas-she is a Chanel lady, I tend towards Japanese baglady).

Hi Lorna, I'm in Bradley Stoke. What is your favourite local fabric shop? I like Flo Jo on the Gloucester Rd.
