Fun with Fabric / Re: Hand sewn items from felt - ideas wanted!

BHG.com had a free pattern for small felt bird some years ago.

Budget to spend on new would be 375.00 euro = 330.00 ukp

The machine back then had a lower tension problem. It was years in storage. Got it out to oil it and when turn to oil other points, some small plastic bits fell out from deep inside.
I ask at other forum they say it might work without the bits. But when I try to thread it all 4  machine threads had gone brittle.
I depend on online shopping and before I buy new fresh machine sewing thread. Any tips which brand to buy?
What is best, try to repair or just buy new? And which sewing machine? :flower:
Usually hand sew, but my artritis is now allover go tediously slow on a home use skirt.
It would be for sewing small home items, wallhangings, napkins, small quilted items thin crafts batting/wadding , simple skirts, scarfs. Maybe some pretty stitches. Because needlework, embroidery, cross stitch is also an issue with OA and dexterity etc.

Very little choice in buttons here at the few fabrics online shops. I depend on online shops.

The linen thread is for hand sewing, not for machine sewing.

See www.gimmiefreebies.com/free-sewing-patterns-from-butterick-mccalls/ scroll down to accessoires for the free bag patterns. I made the retro tied bag and vintage evening bag years ago when getting the Butterick newsletter one got the free bags patterns with email.

See www.robertkaufman.com click on patterns then click free patterns then look up free bags. I hand sew the ruffle tote. Under free womens accessoires see chevron clutch bag, I made it with floral quilt cotton. There are also other free patterns and lots of free quilt patterns.

House Beautiful / Re: Tablecloth/curtains?

Maybe you could add a shop bought nice tablerunner to it, either some plain color that is also in the tablecloth or a pattern that is similar. For drafts of windowsill I make draft snake, sort of like a sausage made of quilt cotton stuffed with batting/wadding or old socks. :)

I have not bought apparel/garment :frock: fabric in decades. Looking for an online shop that sells a heavy quality linen? :thread:
Also looking for linen thread for hand sewing? :) :thread:

« on: November 03, 2019, 17:51:26 PM »
Hi and welcome. :flower: :sew:
Fond memories of NY visited in spring 1981. I am thinking of maybe sewing machine at least try ...again. I see you started machine sewing December last year, did you find it easy? Lucky you being in NY with all the fabric shops. I see a Youtube video about NY garment district fabrics/ Bernadette Banner. Is very nice seeing fabrics etc.
