The Haberdashery / Re: Sew Essential delays
« on: April 17, 2020, 15:29:08 PM »
So far it has not been bad, I've used Jaycotts two or three times and delivery has been about the same.  I've also ordered some carpet stuff from Ebay, which they said would be here by the 12th April.  I've chased it up just in case.  One place I've ordered from there are now only the two owners there so if it gets in that situation, bound to be delays.

I am very pleased with it.  My only complaint is that it smells very strongly of fabric softener!  There are definitely worse smells though.

 :D  8)  :sew:

Definitely, mine stank of cigarette smoke, and I mean stank.  The only thing that didn't was the cover, it was still in its packet, never used.

Yes it is funny to thread, more like my first sewing machine and threading the needle from the side, that was a first.

I really like that, that collar looks fabulous.  I really love zips so this is perfect for me, if you get fed up of it. ;)

Don't know about light bulb moment, I've never even noticed +attachments and other options.  I suppose you could after a certain length of time delete the lot.  Not many us go go back and look at old photos.

I'm really envious of those plugs on the wall and the angle lamp.  So much space, just love it. Can  we have a photo this time next year though ;)

I've got a Husqvarna Mega Quilter @Acorn and can confirm that it is as tough as old boots.  The only quilting done has been for a jacket I made and a quilted bag.   Made a good job for my first attempt in that area, especially when I ran out of the sticky tape and used a ruler.   So, I can't really comment whether the harp is big enough as they were both small projects.

I'm actually going to move it onto another table next week so I'm going to give it a good oil.  I also like the fact that it moves from heavy to lightweight fabric with no fuss and barely any messing with the tension.  Yes it only has one function but it does do it well and never gets sniffy when they others turn their nose up at something.  If it had a few more needle positions it would probably get used a lot more.

That is awful, you get all excited done your research and then your are disappointed.  It's a bit like a kick in the stomach when you know you've boobed (not being nasty with that, that's how I feel when something like that happens).

But move on, don't get despondent @KayK.  A good vent is good for you.

If you’re not afraid of an 100-hour project, which would create a Chanel style jacket as comfortable as a cardigan, there is always the traditional, haute couture way of doing it. Ann Rowley created a fantabulous picture tutorial when she made hers....

Can't help wondering, who got her gorgeous sewing machine?

Same here @Missie, I even got round the cutting the pattern out then stuffed it back and made something else.  I really could do with something that covers smart and casual at the same time.

Technical Help / Re: Scuba faux leather hemming query

I think you are right @BrendaP.  Unfortunately, reaching a block has sent me back to the jacket that wants the snaps, now that I have them and the tools.  If I'm not careful I'll leave it and go onto something next  that is easy to sew and press.  It is lovely fabric on the outside though and just looks like soft suede.

Still, got time on my hands.

Technical Help / Scuba faux leather hemming query
« on: March 26, 2020, 16:02:22 PM »
I've bought some Scuba suede for a skirt, first time I've used it.  Lovely fabric, easy to sew but now I've come to the hem.  I know you can just  cut the hem but I don't see me cutting to get it level.  Would it be best to turn, add bias to the bottom and try and stitch without the stitch showing on the right side?

Another option would be to machine stitch the bottom and then down the sides of the back slit to match,

The Haberdashery / Re: Missing tools
« on: March 19, 2020, 18:28:26 PM »
Done the torch job @wrenkins, flipping mystery, even tried the four pockets of the jacket.  However, when I was sorting out  skirt pattern, the metal sewing gauge that went missing around two weeks ago popped up in the drawer.  Which is odd because the drawer wasn't open at the time and I was around 18 inches away to the left.

I suspect it will turn up as soon as the new bits arrive  :S

Still missing, a micro sd card in the same room.

Last leg to finishing the jacket.  Marked out where I wanted my snaps and got the pliers ready.  For some reason one side of the holder has got a bit loose and I've not figured out how you get it out to replace.  Anyway got everything out ready stuck the top piece in to make the hole.  Dam thing came out off, onto the floor.  Despite the cleaner than usual floor, I've wasted half an hour looking for it.  I've worn contacts for 50 years and always found the little beggars but this much larger bit of metal has got me beat.  I'm hoping Jaycotts are superfast with delivery.

So onward with the faux suede next on the list.

There are some people who look good regardless of what they wear, I am not. Too short for either I'd go with the navy, there again maybe not, this washed and layered look would definitely get rude comments, so first one.  If a weather lady wore it he wouldn't bat an eyelid.

I hate to sound a numpty but when 'shoe' was mentioned I looked and tried my hardest to make the picture bigger so I could find out where they were sold.  So disappointed when it finally decided to enlarge.  Pretty though.
