Patterns Discussion / Drafting a coat collar ?
« on: September 19, 2019, 12:16:30 PM »
Hello !
I recently tried this coat on in a store and I really liked the fit. Well defined shoulders , long enough and trendy relaxed shape and collar. However, it's only offered in colors I'm not fond of.

I found Burda 6987 in my pattern box and I wonder if I could add a collar to it. The manufactured one was a shawl collar, I mean cut in the same piece as the front and no collar stand. Your opinion and advice ? Thank you !

Dolls and Toys / Tilda - Cloth dolls
« on: April 25, 2019, 13:18:59 PM »
Hello ! I've lost my sewing mojo but I recently stumbled upon cloth dolls on the internet and got interested in them.
I'd like to know if Tilda doll is a generic name or a specific brand, at least originally. Is a Tilda made always the same way, with the head and torso cut in one piece and added arms ? Do you have any website or book recommandation if I want to try my hand at making one (or a few !) ?
Thank you for your help.

House Beautiful / seasonal cushion covers
« on: December 07, 2018, 12:05:48 PM »
I've had this idea for years about having cosy warm color cushion covers in winter (possibly wool or faux fur) and changing to something freshening like white and blue stripes in the summer. But it meant finding storage for the out of season covers.
Then I had an idea : why not sew reversible covers ? Brilliant. Then I tried to figure out how to sew them. And the conclusion was sooooo simple : just make 2 regular covers and use one on top of the other !  :toast:

Anyone doing this ?

Fun with Fabric / Squaring up wool fabric ?
« on: November 12, 2018, 10:13:29 AM »
I was about to wrap my wool fabric in a damp sheet when I remembered to check the edges. I smoothly tore the ends to find a reliable cross grain and found out that I have more of a parallelogram than a real rectangle. I'm planning to block it using the tiles on the floor as a guide but I really don't know how to ?
Thanks a lot for your help.

Hi, I'm new... / Hello, I'm Sizun
« on: November 11, 2018, 14:30:09 PM »
Hello, I'm Sizun, from the East of France (Besançon). I'm currently 51 year old and I've been more or less sewing for over 40 years. My mother used to make most of our clothes and this is how I first learnt to sew.
I've spotted some familiar usernames here so I though I might join and say hello.
I like sewing clothes for me, to build a different and comfortable wardrobe. I collect lots and lots of Pinterest pins, and sometimes use this inspiration for real instead of just dreaming  :thread:
I'm quite comfortable at sewing simple dresses and skirts, but things like welt pockets, tailoring and collars are still out of my comfort zone although I've occasionally made a jacket or two.
