Didn't quite make it today - more ironing than I thought.

But, I have got a plan for tomorrow...

I've come upstairs to have a closer look...

Handbags.  I cut out four last year for birthdays, and so far only one has been finished and given away.  I've not got very far with them, but they are definitely UFO's - although not of great vintage.  Some have zips in, some have linings, but all are at different stages - none, anywhere near finished.

So, are handbags allowed?  I would love to get rid of all the clutter which is sitting there, waiting for me to make a start...

I went to bed, with every intention of wearing the dress, with a jacket - it did feel really nice.  Unfortunately, I woke up to a very chilly Thursday, and that if I wore it, I was going to be very chilly indeed.

I wore instead, a tunic top in a knit fabric, with thick tights, and my big coat.  It was a very good call actually, because the churchyard where my dear cousin was laid to rest, was on high ground facing the moors - it was bitterly cold!

I was exhausted when I got home at 6 o'clock, but very glad that I went.

I'm sure there will be many other chances to wear my dress.

Dress is now finished although with less than perfect buttonholes...

I've tried to take a picture, but the black is looking even worse than earlier - I'm getting a pinkish haze across the middle.

I do like this pattern, but I should have made it in a heavier fabric - with no lining.  Tbh it looks more like a coat dress...

I may yet decide not to wear it...

 :thumb: bottom buttons it is!

You know when you practise your buttonholes to make sure they are perfect, and they fit nicely and they will repeat time after time... Well, I did that.  Perfect buttonholes many times, then, I came to repeat them on my dress.  On the first buttonhole, the thread broke half way through.  Unpicked, re-threaded, made sure there were no flaws in the thread.

Tried again. Three buttonholes done.  On the fourth, the thread snapped again... :headbang: That's when I walked away, had some food, and now I'm back to unpick the buttonhole, change the thread and start again...

Not funny.

Buttons have arrived, just need to choose which colour now, although that isn't too important.  Most important is setting the machine up to sew some lovely buttonholes - I always find this stressful.

Buttons have arrived.  Not perfect, as my choice was limited to what would arrive today.  3 choices though... the top and bottom are very similar, although one has a dark background, the other silver, then there are the gold ones.

Any opinions?

While I'm thinking, I'll set the buttonholer up...

I'm here  :bye:

I've made compromises on the Funeral Dress, simply to get it done - hems mainly - they look fine.  Just shoulder pads to do, but I'll have to make them...

Waiting for the buttons from Amazon - fingers crossed.  If they don't come, I'll have to wear something else...

I've taken pics, but they look very grey, but they are really a very deep black.

Good information @SewRuthieSews  - too late for me though   I'm going to try to get away with the smallest shoulder pads I possible can!

Thanks girls, as always some great information.  I've almost finished, just hems, buttonholes and buttons to do - oh and shoulder pads...

I wondered why the shoulders weren't looking right, and it turns out they need a shoulder pad.  I'm not making big power shoulders here, just enough to lift them a bit

The collar @BrendaP , I just trimmed down a bit, and angled the points more gradually.  I checked it against a collar I like, and it looks much better.

Because I've lined it, it has the look of a coat dress rather than a tea dress, but I'm OK with that as the weather is very unpredictable atm.  OH thinks it's a bit black, and that I'll look like one of the Addams family, we'll see...  I do have other things I can wear...

I'll post some pics shortly, but I really need to go and make bias binding for the hems

Hmmpphh!  Nearly done - and then I looked for buttons... and I haven't got 10 matching 15mm black buttons...

Time for an Amazon search, or I'll be going into town tomorrow to see if I can get anything suitable in the fabric shop... :boohoo:

@Surest1tch thank you, it's not so much the dress which I added about 1.5cms too, but the lining, and I'm not so bothered about that.

I've just finished making another collar, which, because of all the alterations I've made, is to short.  Then, onto the sleeves...

Not doing too badly ...

Just had a warning come up when I tried to post a new thread with a picture.  It says the certificate for TSF has expired.  I'm sure it was just a glitch and posted anyway, but thought I should report it.

This is the dress I'm currently making for my cousin's funeral.  I love the pattern, and I've been waiting for an occasion to make it.  Unfortunately, I think my fabric choice may be 'off', and I might have to choose something else to wear.

I started by making alterations to the pattern as I am no longer a size 12 (that's the size the pattern was cut...).  However, I lengthened the bodice far too much, and had to do much unpicking.

Once I had the sizing right, I cut the lining out.  This was a palaver, as there were no lining pieces... Got there eventually though, although the lining isn't exactly what I would have chosen.  It's got a sort of tafetta feel, so I'm not at all sure it will work, but, it's all I could get.  One thing I did get wrong though, was the length.  I forgot that I'd lengthened the main fabric, so I'll have to put a rescue plan together if it looks too short.

This morning when I've done the paperwork, I plan to alter the collar.  It's very pointy, so and suggestions will be most welcome!
