Hello,

I'm trying to fix a hole under the arm of a woolly jumper...my machine will instantly read LO and stop working. Did all the troubleshooting options, still getting this warning. I changed the needle as well and still not working....this is so frustrating!
What am I doing wrong?
 :headbang::headbang:

My machine is Janome 5060QDC.

Hope you can help me

In the wardrobe / Adjustable mannequin
« on: March 15, 2023, 10:21:54 AM »
Good morning, I am contemplating in getting a dressmaker mannequin.
I wanted to have your views on the Adjustoform Tailormaid Heavy Duty Dress Form… do you own one? Do you like it?

VERY SILLY QUESTION….Is a plain colour mannequin better than a floral or polka dot?

Thank you

Hello everyone, Bonjour tout le monde,  :*

Christmas is approaching fast and thought I could treat myself (or hubby could :P) to an adjustable mannequin?
Have you got one of these? Are they any good? Which one would you recommend?

I have just started taken on sewing (April 2020) and still learning a LOT and I am sure a mannequin will help me?

I thank you in advance for your feedback about adjustable (or not) mannequin

In the wardrobe / Altering a winter coat for beginners
« on: October 15, 2021, 13:04:14 PM »
Hello,

My friend has asked me if I could alter her winter coats as it is too big around the waist.
The only problem is...I have NEVER done this and don't really know where to start?.. and to make it more complicated for me...the coat has a lining :(

I wonder whether you would have a "guide" on how to do this? or any Youtube videos I could watch to help me?

My friend said that she is not too bothered on how it looks but just doesn't want to give the coat away as she really likes it.

Thanking you in advance

Hello,

I was wondering if anyone know of a big fabric shop in my area or close by? I live in a village close to Watford in Herts...
I usually buy my fabric on-line (or small local haberdashers) but wanted to go to a big shop where they have a LOT of choices of fabric....and make a day out of it  :P

Thank you for your help in advance

In the wardrobe / Stuck on easy pattern cutting layout
« on: April 15, 2021, 11:36:59 AM »
Hello,

I am rather new to sewing (1 year old) but practiced more on quilting, making small pouch bags, buntings, etc…and never made clothes before.

I have started a sewing course from Centre of Excellence….have any of you beginners completed that course before?

As part of the course….I purchased my first easy pattern for bottom PJs (Simplicity 6859, I am making photo A).
And already I am stuck!! Lol….

I don’t understand how to fold the fabric to lie down the pattern on?

Selvage on the top and bottom…with a double thickness…..
Does that mean the fabric is folded along the length side of the fabric as supposed to the width??   [ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Also...what is the "nap"

I appreciate your help in advance :)

many thanks

Sewing Machines / New year.... new sewing machine
« on: January 02, 2021, 11:20:39 AM »
Hello and Happy new year to you All.

Now I have played a little with my basic sewing machine in 2020 (Brother LS14 which I love) I thought it was time for me to move up a gear and get a more sophisticated one.

I hope you can help me choose the right sewing machine for me?

My budget is approx. £400

I managed to make small quilts with my LS14 (120x100cms) but I would find it tricky to make anything bigger with it so I am looking to have a big throat/arm perhaps? Which could also allow me to do free quilting?

I think this is for me the biggest improvement of the sewing machine I will be looking at.

I love that PFaff 260C but worry the arm size is still too small for bigger quilt?
When I say bigger quilt by the way.... I think the biggest I will ever make would be for a double size bed. No bigger.

pfaff 610 has a bigger arm but above my budget.... although I could stretch a bit.

Pfaff machines attracted me because they have a powerful motor.

Janome 5060 looks good too. But then again a bit above my budget.

How about Singer Stylist 9100?

Oh Gosh.....so hard to choose...!!!

Hope you can help me finding the right 2nd sewing machine for me?

Thank you

In the wardrobe / Sewing room...what size is yours?
« on: August 19, 2020, 12:43:06 PM »
Hello,

My husband wants to build a sewing room for me down our alley way but we are restricted for space...
It will be 2mx2m approx.(working space including table and chair) + for shelves 2m high by 1mn wide....

So my question is...how big do you need your sewing room to be to make it worth having?
For the lucky ones who have one already...how big/small is it?

I don't want him to do all that work (and money) if you say this will be far too small.

PS: I have a big table for big projects so I can always go in the living room if need be.

Thanks for your feedback in advance

Hi,
What is best for quilting with cotton fabric?
Does it make a big difference if it is cotton or polyester wadding? I hear polyester tend to be slippery with cotton fabric but does it really matter as we pin it all together?

Thanks

Hello everyone,

My first attempt to a quilt (lol) is finally done. yyyaaayyyy! So nice to see a finished project!
I made a few (a LOT of!) mistakes...but I have enjoyed everything about it and now ready to make another one. :)

I have only 4 fabrics (+ another for the backing)...what would be a nice (easy but yet looking amazing) pattern for me to work on using only 4 fabrics on the front?

If you have made one...have you got any pics to share?

Thanking you in advance

Hello,

After viewing a few tutorials about this new technique that I have heard today of QAYG....(you can tell I am new to this...lol)...I would like to hear from you what you think about this technique?
What are the pros and cons?

As I am a quilter starter (twisted quilter starter!) and only got a standard machine, perhaps this could be the way forward?

Looking forward to seeing your comments  :*

Hello,

Has anyone managed to quilt with the standard machine Brother LS14?

If so, is there anything else extra I need to buy?
I have already bought a 1/4 presser foot for it but I hear I will also need a walking foot? and a plate as mine doesn't go down?
I tried to contact Brother customer service but I got an automated email saying they are currently closed.

Thanks
Arlene  xx

Machine Accessories / 1/4 inch stitch for Brother LS14
« on: May 21, 2020, 09:43:20 AM »
Good morning everyone,

I am a complete beginner to quilting and cannot wait to get starting :)
I hear a 1/4 inch stitch makes it easier to work with.
I purchased a 1/4 inch presser foot.

Does anyone know how to set up my Brother LS14 for it? Do I have to buy another adaptor?
I have been looking everywhere for this answer, I really hope you can help me. xx

Hi, I'm new... / Newbie from Herts
« on: May 20, 2020, 18:39:15 PM »
Hello, my name is Arlène. I am french but lived in UK for over 24 years. I live in Hertfordshire married with 2 boys.
I bought my first sewing machine about 3 years ago and never really had any major projects apart from a few repairs there and then.
My last piece of work was making a vintage bunting for VE Day.... which, I must admit, got me hooked!!!
Since then I have found myself a new hobby... purchasing fabric!!!
Today I have a few projects in mind which includes a quilt, summer loose trousers, and a reversible hipster bag with zip.
So I cannot wait to exchange with you ideas, tips.
I am so glad and excited to be part of this forum.
