My first scrappy top is complete . I do think the white sashing helps calm it all down a bit  Now I have to decide whether to have an outer border and find something to back it with.  It is about 38” square , so should be fine for a project Linus quilt. I do quite like it, but there’s a limit to how many quilts I can have around the house!

That’s lovely @Iminei , simple but so effective. Love the bees!

Have you done all that since the start of the sewalong @BrendaP ? It looks amazing! :loveit:

Those colours are so rich @Bjay . Looks lovely so far!

You must be creating scraps as quickly as you use them @Ellabella  :D My scrap box is looking rather empty, but if I work on the other scrap quilt, which needs hour glass blocks then I’ll probably end up with a few more bits and I can probably use small non-scraps. Fabric only goes in my box if it’s really quite tiny ( probably under 6” square or long and thin)

They would look fab against plain white or navy, @Sheilago - they would pop, as the young'uns say.
Thanks @Ouryve , it’s good to hear what other quilters think.
I wasn’t sure about dark sashing as there are quite a lot of dark stripes already. I thought that might confuse the pattern. With hindsight I could have been cleverer with the placement of the strips- maybe having the same colour in the centre.Too late now!
White would certainly work, though I have a lot of pale grey/blue plain fabric that I’d like to use up. ::thinks::

I’ve been sewing a few more string blocks today and laying them out. I’ve decided on a ‘on point’ layout, so I still have to complete the triangles for the corners. I’m thinking I’ll put sashing round each set of 4 blocks or corner triangles as I think it’ll be a little less busy.

Hi, I'm new... / Re: Hello

Welcome @DiverDan . What a lovely bag for a ‘beginner’. I bet your son loves the paw patrol lining! It’s so professional. Did you use a pattern or just copy one you saw?

They do take ages @Iminei , but most of them I did before I got Covid. I only did 3 x 6” blocks yesterday before I gave up.

Had a go at sewing some more scrap blocks this morning, but as I still have Covid, I found I didn't really have enough enthusiasm to do much. I made 3 more blocks and gave up, but here’s what I’ve done so far. Still no definite plan as to how I’m going to sew them together.

Welcome @Clduk! You’re still ‘ down south ‘ to me
I always find it strange when someone on TV refers to somewhere like Stoke as being in ‘ the north’.

As far as fabric shops go, there are none near me unless you count the small amount of patchwork fabric in a fairly local sewing machine shop. I can’t remember when I last bought fabric in person.

After laying what I’ve done so far out on the floor and trying various patterns, I’ve decided I can’t combine my 16 patch postage stamp blocks and my string blocks in any way that I like.
So I’ll definitely be doing two separate quilts. If one is nice enough I’ll keep it for a baby gift and hopefully the other will be suitable and fun enough for Project Linus.

A Good Yarn / Why didn’t I make this years ago?
« on: February 25, 2024, 18:53:59 PM »
Browsing on Etsy, I saw an organiser for double pointed pins and thought I could easily make one. I made this one this afternoon in half an hour, which makes me think why didn’t I make it years ago. I made one ages ago to store all my crochet hooks and this is so similar. No more scrabbling around looking for matching dpns. :D

I’d definitely be tempted to buy a smaller ruler : either 6.5” square or 9.5” square.

I like this design, but I’ve already got blocks made of 2” squares and my string blocks, so I could end up with 3 quilts , unless I come up with a way of combining. Maybe I could use the 2” square blocks as a sort of broad border. ::thinks::
