A Good Yarn / Re: Topical but...
« on: May 10, 2020, 23:03:18 PM »
I’ve been sewing lots of the folded type masks using this mask pattern
for the basic design.
They seem to fit most people well as you can tie the tapes to fit your face.
I added a layer of sew-in ( not fusible) interfacing and use flannel on the inside ( so cut 2 pieces 7.5” x9”) instead of folding one big piece. I also added a pocket on the outside for a filter.

Absolutely beautiful @Manuela ! I am a bit lazy about posting, but have seen a few of your dresses and they’re always so stylish and perfectly made.

Block of the Month 2020 / Re: May's BOM
« on: May 03, 2020, 19:42:26 PM »
Interesting- have just read the instructions. I’ve never done Bargello before and was thinking to myself, ‘why do you sew a tube only to unpick it? ‘. Then I read the next bit and all became clear  :P

I look forward to trying this, but am trying to get my scrubs done and delivered first , so it might be late in the month before I get round to it.

Ooh love those rainbow blocks - don’t remember seeing those before. They are gorgeous and you must have made them before you knew the significance of 2020 rainbows. Just perfect for a 2020 BOM quilt.  <3

You are welcome @annieeg . I buy all my bed linen there normally, but eventually realised that if you look for 100% cotton ones they’re great for quilt backs.  have also recently bought Polycotton double quilt covers to make scrubs with. You get 2 pairs per cover if you’re careful- i.e. 2 pairs for £12 if you look for covers with big discounts. You also get 2 pillowcases to use for quick scrub bags  :D.  Yesterday even made my granddaughter a pair of dungaree shorts with the left over bits!

:D I knew it @wrenkins . Your block is lovely- love how the colours pick up on the colours in the central block. A beautiful  colour combo. Yours looks lovely too @coffeeandcake.

Looking forward to the May block now!

A Good Yarn / Re: Shawl I'm starting - with UK yarn :)
« on: April 28, 2020, 21:27:59 PM »
Gorgeous @LeilaMay . You are obviously an expert knitter.  Love the colours too. I must look at those yarn makers on Etsy. I’d love to have the patience to do a shawl like yours, but I’ve only knitted one shawl ( for my baby granddaughter).   It was the most complicated thing I’ve ever done and I did think once was enough. I might find something simpler to knit with the yarn.

Bridal / Re: My Wedding Dress
« on: April 23, 2020, 23:46:31 PM »
Congratulations on your engagement , a beautiful toile , so quickly made and a gorgeous ring ( love emeralds) . My daughter got married last year and we all had such a wonderful time with the preparations. I feel so sorry for all those who’ve had to cancel things this year. You’re very sensible to get on with what you can do and wait until things get better before you make plans for the date and place. You have so much to look forward to and once we are though this, your friends and family will be all the more delighted to help you celebrate on the big day.

No photo @wrenkins.? I bet it’s nothing like as bad as you say,  :D

Here’s my attempt. Decided not to have the clouds and DH drew the line at a smiley face on the sun  0_0

Ah, thanks @Iminei. I misread that and thought there were 2 tuts on the go. I’ve cut out my fabric and started sewing,so I’ll see what I end up with!  :D

Started my rainbow today. Did you quilt yours @Iminei ? The tutorial doesn’t seem to suggest quilting, but I think I will. It will give it a bit more structure for hanging. Might add clouds and a sun too  :D

Lovely block @Flobear. Love the colours with the pop of red! So interesting to see how different our blocks look with different colour themes. :D

Current Projects / Re: Asking for a newby quilter friend

I agree @BrendaP if the top is finished, but @Vezelay mentioned using the polycotton for a border. If she makes sure the middle is well pressed , she can probably successfully add a polycotton border and iron using a cooler temperature.  Otherwise it should be ok : I have used poly cotton too in the past, especially for backing and it worked well.
