Vintage Machines / Frister and Rossmann
« on: February 23, 2020, 16:05:28 PM »
Hey

I’ve been given a Frister and Rossmann - she’s white (well cream) and a handcrank. She sews ok.

I can’t find any serial number on her at all, and so can’t identify the model/age etc in order to get a manual!
Can anyone help please?

Thanks x

Vintage Machines / Singer 99k - she’s fighting back!
« on: December 04, 2019, 15:19:09 PM »
Hey

Can I pick your brains please?
I’ve recently bought a 99k handcrank (1930) and I’m just trying to get her working again. She was sold as ‘working condition ‘ and I have put some fabric through her which was ok, although the bobbin tension was a bit strange!
I’ve just tried winding a bobbin, I’ve replaced the bobbin tyre. But when I try to loosen the balance wheel and then crank for the bobbin, the take up wheel and the needle still move. On my electric 99k loosening the balance wheel stops them moving. Once I’ve loosened the balance wheel, I don’t seem to be able to tighten it up again!
Winding the bobbin is too much of an effort too - something’s not right!
Can anyone point me in the right direction please?

ETA - caught my thumb in the wheel spokes! Not sure that she likes me at the moment! Currently talking to her nicely! Ouchy...

Many thanks x

Embroidery and Embellishment / Sashiko Panels
« on: November 22, 2019, 09:58:28 AM »
Hi all - May I pick your brains?

I’m new to sashiko and have been stitching pre-printed panels. I know the advice is to wash the panels once stitched, but I’m concerned about colour run. My panels are deep indigo and my stitching is cream. Just don’t want to run the risk of my stitching ending up a bluey colour!
For info, I’ve stitched the panels but there are white cutting marks between each ‘pattern’. I don’t want to cut if possible as I want to use them in a whole length.
Does anyone know if the colours bleed?

Thanks x

Vintage Machines / Restoring a 66k
« on: October 16, 2019, 14:10:08 PM »
Hi all
Looking for advice please (well @Roger did say to holler!!)
So I’ve just bought a 1913 treadle 66k, and she is looking quite sorry for herself. Lots of surface rust, very dirty etc, but things move and I’m a positive person!
I’d like to get her looking good obviously, and if I can persuade her to sew at some stage that’d be fab.
I’ve started with the obvious, and am attacking the dirt and rust.
I’m working on the balance wheel at the moment. I had thought that under all the filth that it’d be shiny, but it’s starting to look like the whole wheel may have been black, not just the spokes. Could this be right? Or have I just not delved through enough layers yet? I’ve asked Mr Google-Images but can’t find a definitive answer...

Thanks in advance/anticipation/in a heap of Autosol... (delete as appropriate)

Hi, I'm new... / Hi - I’m new here!!
« on: October 03, 2019, 15:59:28 PM »
Hi
I live in Norfolk and have an addiction for buying and stroking fabric! Just don’t seem to be able to make things quickly enough tho so my fabric stash is growing! I do love making clothes, quilting (very much a beginner at that), crewel work, mending, anything really...
Looking forward to finding my way round here and ‘meeting’ you all
X
